is avast 4.8 protecting against malwares and other plagues now?

???

hi! dear avast forum,
I’d like to know if the new version avast 4.8 is protecting against malwares, trojans, spywares, etc.? if not which are your most unexpensive recommendations to be fully protected against those plagues? which are the freeware ones are effective?I’d appreciate your helpful hints.if not, isnt a request for that protection to be included in the future version? Best Regards.

Hi, carioca.

For spyware/trojan/malware protection, I suggest:

SpywareBlaster 4.1

and one of these Antispyware scanners:

SuperAntiSpyware Free

Spybot-Search & Destroy

Spyware Terminator (exclude the Crawler Toolbar, the add on, and the antivirus module)

and maybe a third-party firewall such as ZoneAlarm.

I hope my advice will help.

Yes, avast tryes to protect to any malware (virus, trojans, spywares).
But not a software is perfect… some viruses could (will) be missed.
I suggest SuperAntispyware free (on-demand only) or SpywareTerminator (even as resident) free too.

Agree with Tech and JTaylor
you can use as many on demand scanners as you want to
Installing one of the ones with some resident function could help
even
Spybot SD helper and T-Timer
Spyware blaster works by setting the “kill bit” on malicious ACTIVE-X- works only with Internet Explorer
(it does protect against some tracking cookies with Firefox)
but
Since IE can be opened by malware (unless you have it really locked down) Spyware Blaster (or similar) is a must
A HOST file will help prevent baddies from “phoning home”
MVPS hosts, Hphosts, Spybot all can provide HOST files

Just run ONLY one AV and ONE antispyware “resident”
and quarantine, send to chest, vault - whatever any hits for further analysis and restoration if a FP
delete and - well- see ya
Scotty, the beloved by many Win Patrol watchdog, can also monitor critical files and reverse most unauthorized changes Scotty gets along with everyone
I still have I-E Spyads installed in Internet Explorer “Restricted Zone” eventhough no update for a long time - since I do not use IE -dos’nt hurt - might help
I do not use IE except for updates -
