Is avast 5 deflaut settings recommened ?

Hello
i notice some avast 5 settings are not right ( well what i reckon)

first
some settings are like :

stop scanning files on open once it has been scanned once before ( tick on )

scan all files ( tick off )

and stuff like that

i ticked them off but was the avast 4 like this ?

Yes it was but version 4 professional in the advanced interface mode. And the default settings are recommended, if not they wouldn’t be default don’t they?

Yup Trust what the avast team gives us or else you can do some tweaking to improve or speed up the scanning if you are sure of yourself

lol it is an anime^^
Nothing much hehe!

Trust in alwill and avast technicians, they know what they have made the default settings. And as my friend the magician says, if you dont like them, you can change those values, and see how your system behaves, and if they satisface your needs.

Hi starcraftmaster

Default settings are fine  What you could do is using High Heuristics and/or PUP detection for Shields/Scans of your preference

Greetz, Red.

yer i think i will change them for maximum security

Don’t regret for slow performance

I would suggest not changing anything from the default until and unless you have taken the time to get a very good idea of what the changes will actually mean.
By making some of the changes you are proposing, you are likely to get some slowdown, and - more importantly - likely to get more false positives (if the heuristics were set to high, for example) with the attendant risk of quarantining or preventing the running of an important system file.

I agree with tarq57, you should be aware of what you are doing, because you can slowdown your system and get FP’s, and because of that avast 5 will use more memory and more processes in your processor. but if you are expertise enough go ahead, and experiment with the settings. Just don’t blame avast 5 if you screw up something.

a pretty malwarefighter! dont u think?
Yeah, if you like that sort of thing. (And who doesn't? ;D) Anyone you know?

avast! doesn’t have an easy way to reset the defaults. If you do experiment I would write each one down before changing it so you can put it back later if you want to.

We tried to design the defaults to provide an optimal balance between security and performance.
But of course, you’re welcome to play with the settings (doing so will not “void your warranty”) but keep in mind that changing some of the settings can result in making the computer considerably slower.

One notable example is the packers settings for the File System Shield. I recommend against selecting all packers for this shield as it’s quite common that the system often accesses some huge archives (such as the driver repository foilder, which is packed as CAB files) and the FS Shield will be unpacking all of these files whenever they’re accessed - which will usually result in excessive delays (tens of seconds, or even minutes) and full CPU usage by the AvastSvc.exe process.

Hope this helps,
Vlk

hmmm true

lol there is no default button

well i will change some settings
like : i will tell it to tell me if it finds any thing rather then it trying to do the job on its own

But if I ticked the PUP what more will I have?
Detection of unwanted Programs what is that suppose to mean?
More Protection maybe ;D

I just did turn on pup for my shields and scan. With all packers. Making a scan memory. Heuristic is by default. And i did remove some program in IM,p2p… that i didnt need.

For me i find it enough great.

I’d like to see a page on the Avast website with the default settings for Avast (Free, Pro, and AIS) as it is shipped. It may get the constant tweaker out of trouble, and should help with troubleshooting on this forum also. Obviously, it’s possible to impact the performance of Avast with various configurations. I do applaud the various options, and was attracted to v4.8 due to it’s configurability.

Yes tarq, the PUP means Potencially Unwanted Programs, maybe it’s like droppers or something like that, so it means more security.

I know what PUP means, I was wondering if you know the pretty malware fighter?

…lol
