There are already a couple of topics relating to this paranoia.
So I will point you at one of them and my response, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=43678.msg365296#msg365296.
So is that a Yes that the Conflicker C will be detected? Other AV’s have stated it will be detected.
HI David,
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Unlike many of the virus warnings i get from friends this seems to be backed up by reputable sources (indeed the fact that it has sources is something new to me)
I don’t know, I’m just an avast user like yourself and for the last five years avast has looked after me. But I continue to look after myself by practising safe hex. Not opening attachments or clicking in links in unsolicited emails. Treat things with due respect and don’t trust everything you see without confirmation.
avast has protected against the previous conficker variant so I don’t see why this should be different, just that we have a paranoid media fest on this one. Every day there are new variants of malware that doesn’t get this attention that we trust our AV to protect against. We too have to play our part.
Hello,
I’ve been recently infected by the Conflicker C type. I was* using Avast Home Free Edition and still got infected. (I was updating my Avast each day. manually)
I got it from my USB key which got infected by PCs at my University.
Avast actually found the “worm” on the USB key but wasn’t able to delete it, since it creates an hidden folder that generate another file infected on your external drive.
So I got my PC infected. After looking up on the internet, I was able to know where “one” of the infected file was lying : in the " RECYCLER folder ". Avast wasn’t able to find it at all. Even if I was scanning this unique folder.
So I switched to McAfee anti-virus and I was finally able to delete it.
So beware…
Qovak, you dont have to update Avast each day manually
So it only turned out to be “one” file and was* Conficker C type in unique “RECYCLER folder”.
So you switch to McAfee and was finally able to delete it. What about the PCs at your University? Do you think they have still Conficker C type? They will have had it for nearly 2 months now. Sorry I late reply.
