Is avast free enough

Hi,

If you have avast free, you have windows firewall on, you scan(with avast and MBAM) and check for updates everyday, and you are quite vigilant with phishing and downloads and stuff are safe? In terms of not getting a virus.

Thanks

Yep.

So I am safe thanks

No antivirus program is 100%.

Avast does have behaviour shield and some components to monitor for undetected threats. But you should take caution while opening links from unknown/suspicious mails or web searchs.Use AdBlock Plus in Chrome and be safer.

Stay away from illegal websites or cracked/pirated software as they are #1 way to get infected.

OK, hOW DO I TURN THAT ON. bUT WITH WHAT I HAVE SPECIFIED DO YOU THINK I AM FINE?

Avast by default is always turned on with the recommended settings.

You can use malwarebytes free as a scanning tool once a week it’s free to update and scan.It can detect what a AV Program usually misses

You should be fine if you follow the usual precautions as I said.

ok, so if i scan with malwarebytes and avast and i am careful i should be fine

You’re welcome.

Since MBAM 3.0 came out it had a new look and lots of new features i.e. a fully antivirus package rather than just an antispyware program. From then, I uninstalled MBAM 3.0 because it’s real time component was causing conflicts with Avast Free. Even before that I was using Trend Micro and even in their forum they were reporting that MBAM 3.0 has new functions and especially it’s real time protection. Users for Trend Micro are only using Trend Micro and uninstalled MBAM 3.0. At present, I am now only using Avast Free.

If you may not know that Avast acquired AVG and Avast Team has put lots of AVG features and put it in Avast.

Note: For MBAM I received a free code because I was testing out the beta version of MBAM 3.0. If you are using the free MBAM 3.0 you will get a free trail of the advanced features of the pro and after that you will automatically converted into the free edition

Ok, so avast free and MBAM free should be fine? Because avast has got so,e of avg’s features aswell

@AngryBug: This afternoon i installed MBAM 3.0 (trial period). After trial period ends, it’s real time protection will be permanently disabled. As for now, it’s enabled and I am waiting for confirmation from an experienced user in this forum for his reply via PM, whether or not it’s safe to use it.

If you put exclusions in place MBAM Pro works fine with Avast or any other AV, the only issue is MBAM 3 has quite a few bugs of it’s own.

@CraigB: At present, I am not getting any popups. My previous laptop which i bought last year and only lasted for couple of months. I had Trend Micro on that and i got a lifetime license for MBAM 3.0 and MBAM always shows a warning to me that you need to enable this disable that and so on so fourth. I got a full refund of my money back and got a new laptop (see signature). So you reckon that if i get a lifetime license again and I am using Avast (latest version) it will just work fine.

It’ll work fine with Avast but as I said MBAM 3 has quite a few bugs to work out at this stage, you cant buy lifetime licenses for Malwarebytes anymore either.

MBAM 3 is a system hog. I own a lifetime license but don’'t allow it to run resident.
Run a scan manually once in a while and you’ll be fine.

I have no issues with running both avast free and Malwarebytes 3.0
My system doesn’t bog down and I have found no instance of conflicts.
But all this depends upon your own system(s).

If you want to know more take a gander at our signatures to see what we run.
You will find no two systems are alike.

I am now running the trial version of MBAM 3.0 with Avast Free. So far no issues and no popups.
