I had to register to get another license key since Avast Free v6 expired yesterday on the 9th. I told Avast to give me a another key so I registered through its program’s popup to reregister site. I still haven’t gotten anything for about 30 minutes. I also tried http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php and same thing. I used two different e-mail addresses (two different domains). What’s up? I really need the security protection since it says unsecured.
Unfortunately, the GUI isn’t always working the way it should lately and it often asks for the email even if you go through the GUI. Perhaps the servers are busy now with the new version release, so may explain the email delay.
@ AntDude,
You should at least have a 30-day trial before you need to enter your license/key if I’m not mistaken. Can you verify this: Open Avast GUI > Maintenance > Registration or on the main GUI page. Thank you.
It said expired when I checked last night. Also, its security protection was disabled. I don’t have the old client’s PC, with Windows 2000 SP4, right now to check (will do it tonight).
If you register in the Avast-GUI as described in my link, there will be no email. No key you have to type in.
You enter your details, click “register” and it’s done.
Hmm, I will have to try again tonight. I wonder why it still said expired. Also, I used the same e-mail address that I used in in last year’s version (v5). I don’t know if this makes any differences. I upgraded v5 to v6 directly with a required reboot (did not manually uninstall).
Yeah, I was online but I can say the wireless isn’t always stable. Even if I had no Internet, shouldn’t Avast tell me that reregisteration failed? I was able to download virus definitions in expired mode which was weird too. When expired, shouldn’t that not work? Or is only real-time protection gets disabled?
I am having the same problem! I have 9 days left on my free avast, last night I tried to re-register, and it would not let me. I tried SEVERAL times. So I went and applied for a key to get emailed to me. As of this morning still no response for the key, and I still can’t re-register. I have dial up and am using AOL.
The registration via GUI does not need great bandwith - dial up is just fine.
You’re right, that should not work…
Maybe the easiest way for Avast free users with registration probs would be to just download the newest version 6.0.1125. Then uninstall the existing one and install the new and register right after installation via GUI.
That’s always how I have done it as well. And it works. This does bring up a question that I have. What does Avast use your e-mail address for on-line registration you do not need it for on-line registration? I know you have to enter your e-mail registration for off-line registration, than you check your e-mail and put the license key in the program.
Is Avast E-Mail entry for the on-line registration form just for statistical purposes?
