Avast is telling me I have a huge number of junk files along with many broken registry items. Ccleaner says otherwise.
Is avast lying to me ?

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
Are you running a Smart Scan ?
I guess that the number would vary - the major difference is CCleaner isn’t trying to sell you a product that could reduce the numbers. It is a very long time since I ran CCleaner, I can’t recall if it even checks for broken registry items.
My personal view - With a resident (on-access) scanner the need for on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part dormant/inert files are being scanned, the other active files are going to be scanned by the resident shields when they are activated.
If this is from the User Interface, you would probably need to change these settings - Avast > Menu > Settings > General > Notifications > Offers - uncheck the Share App-Usage data with Avast so we can offer you 3rd party products. I would also suggest checking the Pop-up Notifications in the same area and set it to Limited Mode.
I would also suggest looking in the Avast > Menu > Settings > General > Personal Privacy section - I have only the first item checked.
Thank you David for the reply. I have those settings already. I have used Avast for many years, whilst I undrstand they would like to sell a version of their product to me, I think using what seem to be scare tactics is upsetting. As it happens Ccleaner does have a registry checker which I use often and I believe it is effective. FYI I am not an agent for Ccleaner ![]()
Shows just how long it is since I used it, as its name implied back then it just cleaned cr4p.
FYI. CCleaner was acquired by Avast in July 2017 from Piriform takeover, but is still offered as a standalone product.
