i looked to see if this question had been asked/answered, but didn’t find anything. i used to have avg free, but after running a cleaner (ccleaner) a few weeks ago, i noticed my avg scans were only taking 3 minutes for a complete scan. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling avg, doing a system restore to a few weeks prior, etc., but nothing worked. i finally decided to try avast instead. on the first full scan, it found 2 viruses (both named win32:malware-gen, both considered high threat), so i moved them to the cheest. then i ran a boot scan, and i deleted two of the same type threats that were found. the thing is, both of those initial scans took about an hour and 40 minutes each. subsequent scans now only take about 30 minutes (boot and full). is this normal? it reports that it is scanning the same number of files/folders as the first two scans, but the scans are now much quicker. i’m just concerned because of what happened with my avg. help! thanks :o
3 minutes for a complete system scan with AVG, i hardly beleive that’s possible. Unless you have just OS installed and nothing else. And even that would probably take longer.
It’s also probably the reason why AVG didn’t find anything…
well, i ran avg a number of times in a row and it kept only taking about three minutes. prior to having the problem, my scans always took around 40 minutes. that’s why i decided to finally get rid of avg - i figured something had been corrupted, and uninstalling and reinstalling wasn’t doing the trick. i was pleased that avast took a while to run on the first scan… thought my troubles were over. i’m still hoping they are, i’m just wondering if it is normal for an initial scan to take an hour and 40 minutes, and then subsequent scans to take only about 30 minutes…
Avast will cache files that are clean - and until they are changed will not scan them again. So subsequent scans will be shorter once the cache has been populated
This is accessed by selecting the additional options under each scan type and using persistent cache
Removing the ticks from here will ensure every file is scanned
Avast scans perfect but takes me 4hours cos i have too much directories, sub-directories and files as im a It - Business developer. Even search will take me 5-15mins, crazy right. Previous AVG scan for me hangs often, Immunet is kewl but takes longer, Kaspersky slows and hangs my system on custom scan, Celframe Free Antivirus (new) scan took me about 2 hours. So I’m with avast and celframe now, Vista Business 4Gb ram.
