Is Firefox Browser Protected by Avast?

Hi all. I’m pretty new to this and this is my first visit here. I have been using IE for quite some time. I installed Avast after my Norton Antivirus subscription ran out. All went fine there. As a result of looking for some more security in a browser I decided to try Firefox out. Loaded version 1.0. I actually loaded version 1.0 of Mozilla Thunderbird to replace Outlook Express as well.

I noticed somthing that has me concerned however. I noticed that the blue “ball” in the system tray spins everytime I get email or browse to a page (using IE). The ball will still spin when I use Thunderbird to get e-mail, but it doesn’t spin when I use Firefox to browse around. Is there reason to be concerned? Is there something I need to change or do? Thank you in advance!

Tim

When the blue ball is spinning it means that its scanning a file on your hard drive in this case your email., there is no reason to be concerned, avast is doing its job.
Welcome to the forums.

No reason to be concerned. In IE it spins because of the script blocker. Avast has no scriptblocker for FireFox.

Thanks! That makes me feel better. Can someone explain to me about there being no script blocker for Firefox? Is there no reason to have one? Or is it that one doesn’t exist yet and therefore opens up a possible security breach?

I think it must be developed yet…
You can install a free script blocker untill there: Script Defender.

Remember, only the Professional (or Trial) version has the Script Blocker.
Home version users should look for another script blocker

what kind of scripts are we talking about ?? .vbs and .asp (?) are not even supported by Firefox (luckily), so no need to block it … java(script) can be blocked by Firefox itself.

.VBS,.VBE,.JS,.JSE,.HTA,.WSF,.WSH,.SHS,.SHB

All by default, and im preaty sure you can add some aswell.
