Is it better to always Boot Scan?

Hi

I’ve been running Avast for 2 days and like it enough to drop AVG.

I’ve also just installed it on a friends PC which has 4 XP users and would be interested to know if there are any benefits from scanning inside XP or if the best scan is the boot scan.

He can easily spare the PC for an hour so down-time isn’t a factor, I just want to know if Avast always would recommend a boot scan if possible.

Also, what’s the recommendation for handling infected system files in Boot Scan?

Thanks

Boot time scanning allows access and scanning rights to all files, nothing is blocked or being used. Into Windows, you can scan and continue to work (scanning in background), you can set the deepness of the scanning.
The recommended action is Repair, if it fails, send file to Chest is safer because allows further investigation.
If you’re using avast as resident (on-access scanning), it would be enough to scan on-demand your system monthly.

Thanks for the reply Tech.

Do you mean a Boot scan on demand monthly? My thoughts wre exactly with being able to scan all files of all users.

Cheers

Boot time or inside Windows scanning (all archive scanned too) into an account with admin rights (you’ll scan all files of all users). Your choice.
