Is it possible a firewall without root?

It’s said in AMS that we can’t have a firewall without root.
This app says it is possible: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jianjia.firewall
Any technical comment about this? Can’t this be a future feature of AMS?

Hi,

it’s technically possible on Android 4.0+ using the VPN API, but you can’t have both firewall and VPN active at one moment unless it’s done in one app. Also note that such an app will be able to monitor all your network traffic so I’d suggest using a firewall via VPN API only from a company or brand you really trust.

So, maybe, Avast SecureLine could have the firewall options then.
Nowadays, it’s clear that security requires a trustful company.
