I ran a full system scan and I got some virus/trojans alerts and I would chose to move the files to the chest. Is it possible to change a setting so that when I do a scan and Avast finds a infected file it automaticly puts the file in the chest without me having to click that option. I’d like to run scans at night when in bed and obviously if in bed I would be at my computer to click the option to move to chest every time it finds a infected file
have a look at this topic : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=31308.msg260774#msg260774

do upload those hits to virus total and post any false positive to avast
and deal with the source of any infections
what exactly have you been finding?
It is possible with a little trickery.
The next time you run a scan, see where the scan starts. Place a harmless test file such as eicar near that location. When avast finds it, check the “don’t show me this again” box, click no action. The scan will complete and present a results log which you can use to determine what you want to do with anything found.
