If so, how? Thanks.
During the install untick the two boxes for Google, also advised to choose custom install so you have the opportunity to remove unwanted features.
hi Peano,
Best way to avoid installation of Chrome is to not use the default install settings.
You do this by looking for a custom installation option where you get to untick Google Chrome when first beginning the install process for the first time. Here you will also have the option of unticking other options such as Software Updater, etc., if you like. Also known as expert/advanced install or custom install.
Tip: Upgrading within the main program version usually works out well for the vast majority of users, but moving up to a newer main program version, say to upcoming 9.0 from 8.0.1489 usually works better if you completely uninstall the old version first, reboot, and then install the newest version. Just be sure to save your license file first if using a paid version of avast! to have it handy later to validate the newest version after installing it.
Just use the installer back button to ensure you have everything the way you want it before going ahead with the install.
Reason for this is because Chrome is set as an opt-in install and is not automatically an opt-out. The user must opt-out.
I don’t find any Google Chrome to untick. Here’s the custom-install menu I’m getting:
I know this screenshot shows Google Drive but the Chrome option/opt-out will be on the same screen during installation.
Peano. The option to uncheck Google Chrome is actually before the screenshot of the step you posted. If you can click “back” do that. The Google options are on the bottom of that page. If you can’t click back then abort the install and start over.
Got it! I overlooked it first time through. Many thanks to you both.
I had an avast install the other day that had no option to uncheck google chromes installation and it did install google chrome. I install Avast on a regular basis.
That was my impression. I was actually looking for it and didn’t recall seeing it, but I just assumed I had overlooked it.
Doesn’t matter anyway. I decided to uninstall Avast. For some reason, my system takes forever to boot when I have it installed. Uninstall it and the boot runs much faster. Too many decent free competitors around to bother with that.
