Is it possible to restore lost master password in Avast Internet Security?

I have a problem.

When I bought Avast Internet Security, I installed a master password.

I wrote it down but now I can’t find it.

Is there any way to restore it or create a new master password?

No, you need to perform a clean install.

I did a reinstall using Avastclear to remov the old program but the problem remains.

OK, I can access all vital things by simply abort every time I’m asked to provide the password. But it would be better if everything worked as it should.

A true clean install will solve the problem.

  • Remove all avast folders and files
  • Remove all registry entries for avast
  • Reboot
  • Install the latest avast version

See if this does the trick for you:

Thanks Eddy and bob3160!

I followed your instructions and this time it worked!

It was the register parts and left folders I had forgotten. I thought it was enough just to use Avastcleaner.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Good to hear it is solved now.

avastclear doesn’t remove avast entirely (as you now know).
It just removes certain things that are often enough to solve a problem.

Unfortunately uninstalling through control panel and/or using the removal tool from the vendor nowadays almost never removes everything. >:(

I have tried this twice and it still looks for my locked avast master password >:(

Does the avast utility clear the registry entries or have I to do that myself (if so, I’m goosed, as I wouldn’t know how to do that!). Also, while in safe mode, I just did a search for avast and there are still many avast files on the computer but not related to avast premier (probably from when I have the free version, and also once I had the internet security version, and I also have avast cleanup), but I only activated Privacy Master password with Premier. I was 99.999999999999999999999999999999% certain of the password I was entering as correct but it does not accept it. Any suggestions?

Posting in old and outdated topics is never a good Idea.
If you’ve lost the mater password, you’ll need to start all over again. It is not saved and there isn’t any recovery service for that reason.
