Is it possible to run avast antivirus software from a USB or CD ?

Hello,

I suspect that one Windows XP PC is infected. However, the PC has some antivirus software already installed and the owner doesn’t want to uninstall it. I’m wondering if it would be possible to run avast antivirus software to the PC externally, from a USB or CD connected to the infected PC, and scann the PC when it is turned on. The USB or CD should have avast software, not the PC.

So, if there’s any virus and avast can detect it, I would show to the owner that avast is better.

Thanks !

I think it is called a BART CD.

However this costs.
Hope this helps

You could try one of these on-line scanners or the other anti-spyware/malware tools below.

On-line Virus Scanners and other useful Links Security-Ops.eu.tt New on-line scanner http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
When you use an on-line scanner to confirm, established connection to the on-line scanner of your choice and just before you do the scan, pause the resident anti-virus, enable after completion.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode and report the findings (it should product a log file).

  1. SUPERantispyware On-Demand only in free version.

  2. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, On-Demand only in free version http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe, right click on the link and select Save As or Save File (As depending on your browser), save it to a location where you can find it easily later.

You can connect his disk into another computer running avast.
You can use BART CD.
Unfortunately, there isn’t an online scanning with avast.

Two “download, run once, delete” stand-alone on-demand virus scanners that work well even with a resident av app running are:

Kaspersky:
http://avptool.virusinfo.info/en/
Dr. Web:
http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit/

Both are highly rated and acclaimed in the av universe.

Although, your best bet is to remove your friend’s current av app and install avast!
