I have heard, that the 5.1.864 version has several problems and bugs, so I’m still sticking with 5.0.677. But is it safe to use 5.0.677? I mean, that does it have security holes?
Version .677 is quite safe, no need to worrie. There will be a new stable out in a couple of days anyway.
Is it still safe to use 5.0.677? The new ones have some USB problems, so I’m still sticking with 5.0.677.
All I can say is that version 5.0.677 had many more confirmed bugs than v5.1.889. Judging the stability of a product based on the issues discussed here is not too reliable.
For example, version 5.1.889 (released just a few days ago) is already used by roughly 6 million people. If it were really that buggy, I’d assume we’d be seeing much bigger traffic here…
But of course, the decision is your. Version 5.0 will be supported at least for a year or so…
Thanks

The initial 5.1 versions were rather bad but the last one is pretty damn good. There are few reports but all of those were using Online Armor as well so i’d say it’s not exactly avast!'s fault. I really see no point in using rather obsolete version 5.0 though…
I’m a happy user of avast! V5.1.889 and have not had any problems with my USB Flash cards nor my USB external hard drive.
I was very exited to upgrade to 5.1.889 but after so many attempts my Mail and Web Shield was off
then i did clean install of the new version on different PC and the next day the same thing.
Today i run the 5.0.677 and its all good until new better version is out.
OS: Windows 7 x64 (3 PC’s) same thing
If you need more info on 5.1.889 please take a look at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=69305.msg582277#msg582277
