Yesterday I had to remove MagniPic and a week ago I had to remove Jdj.openmace.net from our home PC. I’m running Avast (free) and thought that I would upgrade to one of the paid version to catch this malware (both looks like they work the same) before it “installed” itself rather than running a few malware removal tools and Avast Boot scan.
But I see that the Antivirus function includes malware and is included in the freeware version, thus how did Avast let this slip by twice or not clean it properly? Why should I upgrade then? Will SafeZone, Sandbox, Firewall or Anti-spam prevent this? ???
What can I do to prevent the other family members (standard windows users) to infect this PC?
Jdj.openmace.net is some adware / browser hijacker classed as PUP. usually some crap that comes bundled with free programs you download
PUP = not virus / Possible Unwanted Program … avast PUP detection is default off all places exept for in boot scan
i recomend running a quick scan with Malwarebytes and let it remove all PUP it find
then cleaning your browsers with AdwCleaner
