Is my avast working with outlook express?

Before installing avast, I used to run norton av and I got lots of mail (including junk) on my outlook express.

Two days ago I installed the free avast Home version and now I hardly get any emails. I checked with the mail protection wizard and it said I’m already protected and it quit.

Do I need to change any settings or is avast stopping my mail from coming through?

avast doesn’t block spam, it only detects infection and alerts you to it, you then chose what to do.

There should be either no difference in the quantity of email you receive or you don't receive any, e.g. it works or it doesn't as I mentioned above avast doesn't filter spam. So are you receiving email that is being checked by the Internet Mail provider? - check the email headers or the Internet Mail provider Scanned Count, it should increase.

What is your OS?
All the Mail Protection Wizard would do if you are covered, e.g. it is set-up would be to tell you as it did.

How did you get rid of NAV?
It is harder to get rid of than the plague, a link worth looking at which is a program removal tool, which can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT

It says 0. The Outlook/Exchange section doesn’t seem to be active, and the subheader says “The provider is waiting for a subsystem to start”

What is your OS?
Windows XP

I used the norton uninstall utility.

Outlook/Exchange Provider is workig only with MS Outlook and MS Exchange mail clients only.
For other mail clients, such as Outlook Express, Eudora etc., Internet Mail Provider is responsbile.

You could check just to be sure, if avast is scanning mail.
Pick a message, right click on it, choose Properties/Details, and there you can see:
X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0552-0, 12/27/2005), Inbound message
X-Antivirus-Status: Clean

if you can, avast is scanning your mail.

Cheers!

Thanks, those lines are present.

Triton, you can also have avast insert scanning message into incoming/outgoing mail(internet mail>customize).Btw,welcome to the forums.

You’re welcome.

And welcome to the forum too 8)

Maybe reason for not getting new mail is that nobody has sent any mail to you in last couple of days?

If you have multiple accounts try to send mail from one to another, see what happens’
