is my pc free of viruses ?

How can I know if my pc is infected ?

Avast doesn’t find anything,a-squared and ad-aware just some cookies every day.So do you thing my pc is free of viruses ?
I ask because I had some problems with my emails server:each time I send a email it is sent by double or triple and one told me there might be a virus ???
Any advice ,thanks
Topaze

That would seem to be a problem with your email and not any virus symptom I have come across.

What is your OS ?
What is your email program ?
Try disabling the outbound scan in the Internet Mail provider, Customize, SMTP tab (see image) and see if that makes any difference.

Are you getting any errors when trying to send the emails ?
Do you have multiple copies of the email inyour sent items folder ?

My OS is IE version 6 /window xp sp2
email prog via bluewin

My avast is set like your image you sent me

There are no errors ,just when I send emails, those are sent in 2 or 3,4 exemplar and don’t know why.I will be happy if it is not a virus at all.!
Topaze-

I have to admit I haven’t heard of via bluewin, whilst avast will work with most common pop3 email programs, I guess there may be exceptions. By unchecking the option your outbound email shouldn’t be scanned, see if that makes any difference. That may not make any difference if it is a webmail

A google search for via bluewin would lead me to believe it is a webmail, web based email that can also be viewed in your browser or by a mobile phone, http://www.swisscom-fixnet.ch/fx/privatkunden/internet/bluewin_email/index.htm.

So when using bluewin, check the Internet Mail, Last scanned: and Scanned total: fields, are they blank or 0 zero ?

last scanned and last infected are blank

But inside bluewin webmail there are an antispam and a firewall both active-
T.

webmail isn’t monitored by the Internet Mail provider only email programs using email protocols, pop3, smtp, etc. as is shown in the details you have shown, “last scanned and last infected are blank.” Webmail is viewed through a browser or browser like interface using the http protocol.

So avast’s email scanner has no effect on webmail and can’t possibly be the cause of any multiple duplicate emails.

Webmail is usually monitored by the Web Shield provider which monitors http traffic, looking at the same details in the Web Shield whilst browsing your email should show changes in the last scanned and an increase in the scanned total: fields.

So we haven’t found the cause of duplicate emails unfortunately.
