Is Prevx a Preferable HIPS Choice for Avast?

I’d like to know if you’ve run Avast with Prevx? If so was Avast’s Sheild on or off? How was or is it going?

Generally, you can run any HIPS along with Avast! (and any other antivirus which doesn’t have HIPS feature) 'cause they do a different job and HIPS is always designed to be the implementation to an antivirus software so it shouldn’t give any conflicts but they may slow your system down.

For me Cyberhawk is probably a better choice, it’s light, unobtrusive, free and offers better results than Prevx, according to the av-comparatives test.

Ah Maeng!
Thank you for your input. What about the webshield’s “HIPS-like” feature? Not true HIPS right? On/Off does it matter?
Have you tried Cyberhawk? I was under the impression you surfed au naturel!

Hi LaFemmeMichele

I have been running the Free version of Prevx1R available via (Castle Cops) with Avasts WebShield (On) for about 6 months now without a problem.

Thanks Tednelly!
CastleCops Prevx board is recommending AVG & Windows Firewall as the ideal Prevx compliments. On one hand they say you can use it with your AV/FW & out of the other side of their mouth they recommend the aforementioned ideal setup.
I’m glad to hear from you. No problems then with your firewall either then. I want to hear from Avast experience.

No problem LaFemmeMichele

The only time I used the windows Firewall was to turn it off in preference to ZoneAlarm.
I haven’t had any issues at all with Avast, Prevx or ZA they all seem to play very well together on my system, however some people have had problems with Avast and ZA.
ZA privacy setting are the main issue, all of my ZA privacy setting are set to off.
and I use other apps in their place. Work well for me

It was a good freeware… than becomes a shareware (trial period only)…
So… no PrevX anymore. You can use Spyware Terminator for free side-by-side of avast
