Is there a free way to watch a DVD from a file on my netbook?

Hi avast! “experience collective”.

What I want to do is watch a DVD video that I already own, on a netbook, without having to plug in a clumsy & battery-draining USB DVD drive. There’s a whole bunch of trialware apps that will convert it to AVI or MP4 but insert a huge watermark if don’t pay for the full package. Does anyone here know a good way of doing this?

Maybe you find somthing you can use here. http://lists.thedatalist.com/

Something like these

http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/

If you already have the file on your system then you should be able to play it with VLC Player without converting

Have you looked at HandBrake and Screencast-O-Matic ???

Thanks guys.
I’ll be exploring the various options.

Vladimir, make a copy (.iso) from the DVD and use VirtualCloneDrive to mount the iso and use it as a virtual DVD. Easy. Clean. Freeware.

Making iso file, you can use ImgBurn for free (be careful to optional toolbar).

Decrypting the DVD copy protection is the key and from Pondus’s link I discovered that a trial version of a program I already had includes a permanently free ‘DVD Decrypter’ feature (http://www.dvdfab.com/hd-decrypter.htm) which does exactly what I was looking for.

I also found this one (http://dvdsmith.com/dvdsmith-movie-backup.html )which also does the job.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Try VLC
