is there a "non-interactive" mode?

I’m running 4.7home on my XP-64 machine. As it’s currently configured, whenever a virus attempts to come in on an email, a window pops up prompting the user on how to proceed. At that point, all email processing stops until somebody responds to the prompt.

So far, all the viruses have been (spam) .pif and .exe files. I don’t have a need to receive .pif or .exe files, nor do I want to examine them.

Isn’t there a way for the program to just delete them before they arrive and not to prompt each time? 99.999% of the time, they arrive in the middle of the night - which means all my email is backed up when I need to use my machine in the morning…

Ofcourse there is. Depending on the version of avast there are several ways to do it.
Check/read the manual, it is explained in there.
It is also explained in various threads on this webboard.
You can use the search option to find them.

ps:
Mention the exact version of avast if you have a question.
That will allow us to provide more detailed help, cause there is a difference between home/pro.

Yes there is but if you are getting so many infected emails, etc. perhaps it is time to review your security, how your email got out there, etc.

See the avast help file, Resident Protection: Internet Mail Provider Settings - “Advanced” Page.
Click on Internet Mail and then on Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and select Silent Mode and the General answer No.

Spam generally isn’t infected but even so Anti-Spam tools can filter that before it gets downloaded. So you shouldn’t be troubled by avast detecting them, treating the disease rather than the symptom.

If you are regularly getting these infected emails, so as to be intrusive and not wanting to be notified about them, perhaps it is time to review your PC security. You can intercept these emails at source (your isp/services mail server) and delete them there, rather than download them.

I use MailWasher Pro (not sure if that works with win64), although it is primarily for Spam it is also easy to deal with suspicious emails. There is a free version, but this only works with a single email account. The Pro version works with multiple accounts.

In addition to David’s post, I think it would be a good thing to visit my website (click on my signature) and do as stated there.
