Hello,
I have having a problem booting in safe mode. I’d like to create a bootable USB drive (maybe a DOS prompt) and then just be able to delete AVAST and reboot the system in “Safe Mode”… from there I believe I’ll be able to do what I need to do. I believe AVAST is causing my “pipe” error every time I go to run any executable that can actually help me fix my PC (I could have a virus too… not sure).
Any help would b eappreciated.

tried this. http://www.avast.com/en-eu/uninstall-utility
did you remove old AV before installing avast? http://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php?article=AVKB11
could have a virus too... not sure).
if you want a check follow instructions and attach requested logs. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

I currently can’t run any EXE files that actually help me do anything on the PC (like CCleaner for example). I can’t run ADD/REMOVE programs, or any of the Admin utilities. I can’t run ANY setup.exe files either. I suspect there is a virus as well as an AVAST corruption. I can’t even boot up in SAFE mode becuase it stops after file ASWRVRT.sys (which is an AVAST file).
This all started right after I upgraded my AVAST software WHILE suspecting I had a trojan or virus… so, now I’m just trying to get one step done at a time.
Ultimately… I’d like to remove AVAST and “repair” Windows (Vista 64) and then see where i stand.

Thank you for your response…
Essexboy is helping me get the windows restore/repair working.
This topic (although similar) was more intended to see if there is a way to just create a bootable USB drive and have an uninstaller/delete program for AVAST.
I do realize the two topics are similar… sorry for the overlap. I just figured this question is easier to answer than the other one.
