I’ve tried downloading Chrome from FileHippo, MajorGeeks and from the Chrome site and with all I wind up ready to INSTALL Chrome right then and there. Is there any place, any way that I can download a Chrome Setup File instead of the only option being that of an impending INSTALL? Because I want to download it at my sister’s house and then bring it over here to my computer.
Why not download the installer on her system?
Hi Chim,
There are indeed alternatives like you seek, read: https://support.google.com/installer/answer/126299?hl=en

Excellent! THAT’s it. That’s what I needed.
Thanks, Eddy … Polonus.
I do keep a PortableApps.com current version of Chrome on my Flash Drives, but I wanted the Desktop version as well just in case. Just like back when I was using my previous computer, which had Windows Vista, for some reason, the PortableApps.com versions of Chrome and Firefox just would not work. I would always get errors of one type or another, basically amounting to not being able to access the Net. The Desktop versions WOULD work.
With this computer that I use now, which has Windows XP, the PortableApps.com versions of Chrome and Firefox do work. Just want to cover all bases.
O—Kay. So that excitement didn’t last too long. When I finally got around to trying out that link at my sister’s house the other day, it just takes me to the same ole INSTALL Chrome situation as with the regular Download Chrome link. It doesn’t provide any option to download a Setup File. How odd.
How obnoxious Chrome is. Even with the PortableApps.com version I can’t simply download a Setup File for later installation. Nooooooo! >:( I have to download the small Downloader File and then download & install it right then and there at my sister’s computer. Scumballs. What are the afraid of?
Hi Chim,
I think they haven’t become afraid of anything, but we can notice that the Google chrome browser has become much more restrictive towards users over time. It is also so that for developers they do not allow deep layered api access. This was one of the reasons Giorgio Maone’s NoScript extension as we know it from firefox could not be ported to chrome. Yep, Google Chrome is “very propriety” ;D , but it has some advanced security features over other browsers. Took me a long time to switch from firefox to chrome as my personal standard browser, but some nice extensions like ABP, ScriptSafe, Kiss Privacy etc. made me finally do the switch and I haven’t been looking back since.
However I still miss the flock browser and it is a great pity that that Californian browser has been discontinued by the young developers. It had a particular style and smoothness no other browser could ever provide.

@Chim,
See if this takes care of your needs:
http://www.askvg.com/official-link-to-download-google-chrome-standalone-offline-installer/
Well, Bob, I just finished trying out that link and unfortunately, just like the previous links, these latest links you posted also go directly to that same ole Google Chrome page that wants to INSTALL Chrome. Oh sure, it starts out with a “Download Chrome” button, but once you click on that, you encounter the Chrome TOS Agreement and the options:
Set Google Chrome as my default browser.
Help make Google chrome better by automatically sending usage statistics and crash reports to Google.
AND the Accept and Install button.
Maybe at one time all these Offline Installer links actually had what they’re supposed to have and then somewhere along the line, Google changed them in more recent times to tightening the screws and providing no options other than the Take it or Leave It option to INSTALL right then and there.
I say this because in reference to what Polonus alludes, I read over at MajorGeeks in recent times how even MajorGeeks is getting fed up with how problematic it is to get the Dev versions from Google Chrome to make them available. And that even the regular versions were beginning to head in that direction. So in general, dealing with Google Chrome was getting to be more trouble than what it was worth for MajorGeeks.
Hmmm … so maybe Google Chrome is getting to be a bit too Mac-ish / Apple-ish. A little bit too in their exclusive universe.
One more to try:

Nnnnnn NOPE!
100th verse same as the 1st, Bob.
Gives the same results, same options as all the other links.
It too wants to INSTALL.
I guess it’s time to stop smacking the piñata / beating the dead horse. ;D
I’ll just stick to having the PortableApps.com version around.
Thanks for trying anyway, Bob.
Strange since I was able to download the file ???
(googlechromestandaloneenterprise.msi 48 MB)
You can get it from my OneDrive if you can’t get it from the source:

The soonest that I’d be able to TRY downloading it from your OneDrive would be on Sunday, Bob. That’s when I might be going to my sister’s house. Thanks again.
Using Eddy’s link and choosing the first available google.com link will give you the page attached below.
Clicking either of the user links will bring you to the download page; but clicking either will give you a full download @ 40.6 MB.
Suggest not installing the 64-bit version as that still has bugs in it. One bug is attached when using 64-bit below. In normal use this bug is intermittent, but in Sandboxie, this occurred 100% of the time.
So, yes you will get the TOS as you click either of the 32-bit links, but the 40.6 MB file you select should still arrive.
@Chim,
Let me know if you’ve downloaded it or decided not too so I can remove it and save the space for other things.
When you try it, mchain … do you encounter:
Set Google Chrome as my default browser.
Help make Google chrome better by automatically sending usage statistics and crash reports to Google.
AND the more ominous Accept and Install button?
Cuz when I see those 3 things collectively, but especially that button that specifies “Install,” that makes me abort any further action. I interpret that situation as Google Chrome is going to flat out get installed in THAT computer right then and there instead of simply downloading a Setup File.
Or are you saying that clicking on that ominous Accept and Install button IS what will download the Setup File for the Offline Installer?
Hi Chim,
Ever contemplated using this extension: https://zenmate.com/
Who has this and what are the reviews for this?
Anyone?
polonus
Nice but not related to the topic.
Yep, TOS does all that. But Chrome does not get installed until you double-click the downloaded file. Which means you should be able to archive it and move it around from system to system if need be.
Yes, Accept and Install will get you the compressed file as setup. Installation will happen only when you want it to.
Alright. FINALLY looks like that has cleared up the mystery, mchain.
Today after lunch I’ll be going to my sister’s house. I’ll give it a go then.
I guess at worse all that would happen would be that the latest version of Chrome gets installed in that computer. I think that computer already has Chrome in it albeit probably not the latest version.
Thanks for clearing that up, mchain.
Hey, Bob … go ahead and remove that file from your OneDrive.
Sounds like the original link should work now that it has been explained how to get around the roadblock that had been dogging me.
