Is there any way to run a silent unatended install of Avast Free?

I´d like to know if there is any way to run a silent unatended install of Avast Free and the possibility to silently install it without Chrome and Dropbox.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I haven’t heard anything about how to install Avast Free with silent install since I have been using Avast! 7. About installing Chrome and Dropbox with silent install it’s not possible. All it needs from us is a little effort to read the installation steps prior to installing Avast Free. Just uncheck the installation of Chrome and Dropbox

Thanks for your reply. The issue here is that we usually install Avast multiple times each day because we give service and tech support to home usuers, we want to simplify the installation so any alternative to achieve a simpler Avast installation would be really helpful. By the way each user register Avast Free by themselves using their own e-mail adress.

Don’t know if it is still possible, but have a look at:

Could install using Ninte: https://ninite.com/avast and it’s silent mode: https://ninite.com/help/features/silent.html

I tried this method and it worked. Some of the files have changed but i managed to make it work by finding out the new ones.

Thanks for your help!

This is a very good alternative and actually it coud work as I intended. I didn´t know there was the possibility to make a silent offline installation with ninite.

Really helpful advice. Thank you!

With all due respect, I prefer to “supervise/be present” during any install.
I don’t like giving up my “control” over any install. I prefer to be able to
view any install screen and have the ultimate power of decision as to what
is or is not installed based on the choices the vendor provides.

If one does a “silent” install and the user ends up with something they neither
want nor desire (add-ons/piggy-backed software) who takes the blame? Surely
not the software vendor.

One of the clubs were I’ve done presentations several times, is also involved with PCReNew ( http://www.pcrenew.org/ )
They now install avast! on all of their refurbished computers. For them, this was a godsend since they don’t have the time to babysit
each computer when they install the software.
Not all installations are the same and you need to be flexible in order to make it work depending on the situation.

I understand your concern, thats why we try to be extra careful when testing and configuring our silent installation.

We install more than twenty different Programs-Frameworks-Updates on each computer, we also make a lot of configurations on each of them, so we save a lot of time we coudn´t aford by running things silently with no user interaction, also reducing the number of possible mistakes in the process. (So we setup all the programs and configurations with a single click)

This is what we did to try to prevent the possible issues you mention:

  • Disabled any third party aplication installations on Avast silent installation, and tested in different operating systems so we can be sure the configurations we made are working.
  • We keep a log of the installed aplications so we can detect if there is extra or missing software.
  • We run a quality control process, and then we make an inspection that takes us about 5 minutes to check everything is ok.

So in the end we save lot of time while getting more consistent results than if the users run all the processes by themselves.

Thanks you!

Right. This is one of those situations and in this moment is the best solution we could think of.

Thank you for your feedback.

@mike.rvaGlad to hear that your solution is working for you. I’m also happy to have learned about
using Ninite silent install. This may help someone of the other clubs I visit who have run into that same situation.
