VLK etc. you guys continue to put out -imho- the BEST anti-virus utility out there
and to offer a free version is just proof that you hared is in keeping the Net SAFE and not just money in your pocket
I am actually glad (though I do not wish ill will on anyone) but to see Norton’s and McF$$$ just get worse and worse and lose more and more customers is a joy
cause they took advantage of many newbies for years being bundled with so many PC units
-Just check out the stats on Major Geeks site or others-
They charge alot of money for bad utilities
Ok Now with all that said I think my post seems contradictory but this is the longest I have gone from downloading a new upgrade - as I’ve mentioned before as any careful consumer should do with major upgrades I wait till i read the forums on things and make sure all is OK
It seems there are many issues with this new update -and I wish i could pin point one to worry about but I am reading issues from mailers problems to scanning problems
do you plan on an upgrade anytime soon to remedy this or are all these posts problems with how they are installing it or conflicts with other utilities?
Hope all is well - and i am proud of all of you for the High Ranking in the year end reviews - Makes me smile cause I have introduced at least 50 people to your product
Right now, I haven’t seen any evidence of a bug in the last update. So, I don’t think there’s another update planned very soon.
But of course, that might change (besides, it’s not clear how you define “soon” ;)).

It would be nice if you could give instances, instead of a sweeping statement.
I also believe that many of these issues you say exist relate to things outside of avast’s control or fault, and are often firewall blocking updates to the mail and web scanners and also avast.steup. For the most part these issues have been resolved.
Not to mention that you only see people on the forums who have problems (the nature of support forums) and not the many, many, many users that aren’t experiencing any problems.
Hi to all of you
This is a point where I must agree with DavidR.
I use Avast home since August 2005 and I have not seen any problem/conflict.
Great job for Avast Team !!!
David my sweeping statements if you followed my posts were that compared to the past 5 upgrades there were not as many issues that people were having problems with I think that speaks for itself
I am VERY PRO Avast as my post clearly points out
and I even posted what you in turn replied that are most of these users problems I.E. conflicts with their own utilities and Not an Avast problem
Thanks Igor for some insight into my question - I will indeed upgrade my version

I'm sorry, but nothing speaks for itself, without examples of these issues, which you don't mention how can anyone possibly comment/counter what was responsible.
You don’t even mention which update (avast is continually developing) causes these supposed issues. The last update 4.6.760 to 4.6.763 didn’t introduce much hence the small minor point update increase. Checking the last 5 updates from the revision history http://www.avast.com/eng/av4_revision_history.html doesn’t have anything major.
Count me among the devoted users with no (known) problems. I use Zone Alarm Home, not Pro, so missed the conflicts there, but I think that’s been pretty well straightened out by now for those who do use ZA Pro.
The only compatibility problem I (and some others) had was quite a few versions back. For a brief period there was a problem with Eudora when sending mail, but the Alwil team fixed that one quite quickly.
I agree with the previous requests, please point out specifically the “many issues” you refer to and we can discuss those more productively.
Well, here’s my support for what David says also. And like Mike, I have had no known problems with avast after 2 years of use.
Rexdal, I think your post was intended as a good one since you offered praise to avast and the awil team. I am sure awil appreciates you introducing so many people to avast! When an upgrade to avast is need, you can be sure that awil will do it. They are “far & way” better than most at updating the program and the virus definition files.
I think much of the problems have to do with new users of avast who have recently come to avast after having used “other” AV programs that gave less service and inferior protection … along with new users of computers, firewalls, and various other programs that are not easy for some to understand and especially the interaction between these various programs. Then, they go changing settings without really understanding what these changes will or will not do. :-\
Yes, this is a forum for help and as such, there are bound to be many more problems/misunderstandings listed than praises for a great program that does it’s job better than most of this type.
I am no expert but I have been around computers ever since my early college days 36 years ago. I know that if there are problems, then there has to be very good information … and not just general assumptions … in order to solve the problems. Actually, this is true about most things in life.
Please, give us good information and, between the dedicated users & awil personnel, almost any problem can be solved … even if it is not directly related to the avast av program.
