Is this a dangerous download?

Okay, so there is this runescape hack download and it has lots of great comments, like, " This hack works great! I have 50 m now!", but when i try to download it, it has all sorts of virus alerts pop up. Tell me IF it is safe, and if you are in the mood for it, clean it for me.
Here is the download, proceed cautiously: hxxp://www.mediafire.com/download.php?hmtzyzmnng5]

IF you want to help, change the x’s in be beginning to t’s.

Please ‘modify’ your post change the URL from http to hXXp or www to wXw, to break the link and avoid accidental exposure to suspect files/sites, thanks.

I somehow doubt anyone is going to clean it up for you.

If by hack you somehow mean circumventing normal registration/licensing requirements of a product, aside from any moral/legal issues such hacks/cracks are highly likely to come with uninvited trojans and this is likely to be what avast is alerting on,

I used your hxxp idea. I also am not hacking for real money, just for noobs following me around asking to borrow my phat… :stuck_out_tongue:

This is what VirusTotal is saying

:o
Well that’s quite a lot of virii.
D: Well I guess the risk isn’t worth the blue phat for my best friend’s birthday… :frowning:

What’s phat?

PARTY HAT, runescape item, 120+ million coins.

I am really hoping some nice person out there sees this thread and cleans out the file before wednesday, 2 dys before my friends rs bday party.
;D

There are a few, Pretty Hot And Tempting is just one.

Um… I like your humor, but this is a kinda not really funny situation… :frowning:

Well we (certainly me) really haven’t got a clue what you are talking about or asking.

As I said I certainly don’t believe anyone is going to try and reverse engineer any code (even if they knew how) to remove what avast might be objecting to. With the kind of results in virustotal I would be giving that up as a dead loss and looking for ‘whatever’ it is you are looking for at another site.

I haz an idea! >:D
so step 1: run ubuntu and get a virtual machine running.
step 2: run program.
step 3: get rich.
8)

Look, lets be honest here… The chances of this program being legit are very slim. In REALITY is was probably designed as a virus of sorts itself, to get unsuspecting users who think "hmmm this cheat looks legit… I want 50M in runescape!), But actually infects and steals all kinds of info, bank accounts, credit cards ,etc, Not to mention your runescape account.

Firstly, The second you run this so called “safe” application and log in to your account you can say bye-bye to it.

Secondly… even IF it was a safe program (which it isn’t) you would most likely get banned from runescape for using it.

Thirdly, How (if it is a real program) going to give you 50M? By hacking their servers and changing the data for your char and altering it to give you 50m In game? NOT. If anything it would be a BOT (automated program that plays for you) to get money for you. leveling your skills and what not so you can actually make money in the game. This too will BAN you from ever playing runescape again.

Nobody is going to clean this program up for you, nor would they be able to most likely, as I said before it is probably designed to be malicious in the first place… As the chances of someone stripping a legit runescape hack to give you 50M and then adding viruses to it and re-uploading it to infect you are very low.

PLUS, And I am speaking for most (if not all) of the people here, We don’t condone hacks, cracks, illegal DL’s at all. So that rules out us “cleaning” this up for you.

I hope I cleared this up for you the best I could. I was being nice about it I hope :D.

P.S. I would seriously think about scanning your PC with a few well known anti-malware Programs to make sure you are NOT infected before you decide logging into your games, Such as :

Malwarebytes’
And
Super Anti Spyware

And you should do a scan with Avast!. After This I would consider changing your password.

Remember, Fooling around with suspicious programs that “claim” they can get you free in-game gold and cheats and the like are very dangerous.

BTW, Whoever said “This hack works great! I have 50 m now!” was most likely made by the person who made the malicious application to make it seem like it is safe.

Ok, I learned my lesson, but I have 2 good anti-virus.
1: AVG
2: Avast

I hope you dont mean you are running AVG and Avast together. As having two anti-viruses running at the same time (actively scanning your PC, Like avasts! resident shields) can cause conflicts.

For example, If a virus is found and both AV’s are set to scan everything at the same time, they will both fight over the virus and which one gets to put it in quarantine. If they are both fighting over it, then it’s possible for them to both do NOTHING and let it in your system if they can’t decide who gets to do what.

It can also cause serious system stability issues, crashes, file corruption , etc.

It is debated that you can have two AV’s at the same time as long as they are both not set to actively scan your pc, (real time protection.) Some say that you CAN do this, while others say that it can cause problems just because the drivers are installed and running. My opinion is that you can have one or two AV programs as long as they are both not set for real time protection.

This is not to say you cannot have on-demand applications in conjunction with your current AV.Like running avast! and having MBAM and SAS for on-demand scanners.

So, In short it is best to stick with one AV. I personally would pick avast over AVG any day… but you can go to AV Comparatives and look at the reviews of various AV’s and decide what is best for yourself.

Hope this helps!

Not a very good lesson:
Having two resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.
