Is this a legit message from Avast

New poster/first time posting.

A few days ago (20.8.18), I got this message below (I read it today).

"Subject: We’re getting more transparent about your data

We’re making some changes

We noticed you haven't logged into your account in a while.

We just updated our privacy policy to make it more transparent and comply with new EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), so If you want to keep your account active, you need to click the button below. If you don’t within 14 days, we’ll be forced to shut down your account.

If you keep your account active, we will also send you the latest online security news and product updates"

I had never received a message from Avast like this, and having received a number of phishing/scam emails before I was suspicious. I duckduckgo searched (Google has too much of a monopoly/ads and tracking, so I now avoid it a lot of the time) for a similar question, but nothing came up. So I thought to inquire/post on this forum.

I 've figured now that it is probably a legit email. Having had to log in here, and reset my password, I got an email to reset it from Avast (notification@emails.avast.com), from the same looking email address as the email quoted above.

Anyway just putting this out there, so if anyone else has a similar query they might get a result, it might help them.

Hi, see: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=221088.msg1473099#msg1473099

Hi, Asyn. Thanks. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, or double/triple inquiry. Thanks for the link.

You’re welcome.

Just general info/to add to my post from before. I just searched and found visited the GDPR Portal to find out more about this regulation (https://www.eugdpr.org/)
It says “EU General Data Protection Regulation is the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years - we’re here to make sure you’re prepared.”

I wonder why is this regulation is linked to Avast deleting accounts if people don’t log into their accounts regularly. I don’t log in here regularly because it is very time consuming trying to figure out where to find the right info to a problem, the rules are too many to read, and even posting a message takes too much time (You have to “Type the letters shown in the picture:” and “What is current year?:”). But this probably because I am very new poster, and the posting gets simpler as you post more often?

Anyway, that’s all from me for now.
