Is This A Virus? How On Earth Do I Get Rid Of It?

??? Hi All - New Here!

Every time I turn on the PC I’m getting the Contrast Menu Popping up all the time & I can’t get rid of it. Its a square box but The curser goes behind the box when I try to click EXIT. The box itself flashes from green to blue. The menu is usually popped up when you turn the ‘knob’ on the PC itself. The PC isn’t connected to the internet - so I don’t have a virus software on it. I scan everything (on main PC) before I put anything on the second that has the Menu pop Up constantly. How do I get rid of it? Is it a virus?
Help please! From a technie person who knows exactly what it is and how to get rid of it! :-*

Using Windows XP/Packard Bell PC

Hi sofedup,

Welcome to the forum

You should install an antivirus on it, thats my suggestion, because malwares could infect computer not only from internet but a portable drive is possible as transmision.

It could be an adware. Try avast, you may download from the website www.avast.com, both engine/program and update files (since you said your computer not conected to internet). And install both files, better to chose to perform a boot-scan after restarting (you need to restart your computer after the installation done to fully completed it).

or try to use Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware? Check out here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

You’ve limited very well the possibilities of help.
Never heard about it, but “seems” a hardware issue, i.e., something in the adjust of the contrast button, or video drivers.
A full antimalware scan will be good.
