I recently downloaded a file, a music file, labeled “Final Fantasy 8 - Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec.exe” Now, I cannot remove this file at all. I canceled the download way before it finished because of the .exe. Is this a virus? Or some new form of compression to put all the music files? Also, how can I remove the file? It keeps telling me that there is a program using this file.

- What OS are you using? is it up to date?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!)
Clear your temporary Internet files and any other temp files.
If you have XP, open the avast program and ‘schedule a boot-time scan’ from the menu.

I’m on Windows XP Professional, fully updated.
And my Avast is fully updated as well.
I’m just curious, if this file is not a virus, is it just a way to compress files?

Whilst many programs come packed in self extracting install routines, it does seem a strange way to distribute music.
I would check out the website that you were downloading from to see if there was any explanation/documentation.
You could also do a google search on the site and music to see if anything like a warning comes up, malware, spyware, etc.

Well, apparently, a lot of users have downloaded it. I can’t check any documentation, or whatever you mentioned, but I don’t think there are any problems…I’m just trying to figure out how to remove the sucker…

If you stopped the download because of its .exe filename, it is possible that because of the termination of the download the incomplete file doesn’t exist now.
Do a search of your system for the file Vinosec.exe, if you have a dedicated download folder start with that. Once found delete it.
With XP and avast you can ‘schedule a boot-time scan’ from the avast menu. That should ensure that you are clean, just in case.
