I’m trying to be sure I don’t have an infected knockoff of Avast!.
after a recent update, my tray icon went from a rendered 3d thing to a flat 2d icon reminiscent of Windows 8. Is that how Avast!'s look and feel is going?
Here is a popup window I want to be sure is legit before I click ‘continue.’
Any advice would be lovely.

The icon has changed in the “2014” version of avast.
From the (very) little info you gave, I would say click continue.
If you have come from version 8 then yes the icon is now more flat in the 2014 versions with a blue page turning effect like reading a book, scrolling over the icon supplies more information than it did previously.
