I’ve had 5 BSODs in the past week, and I have had very few BSODs up until last week. Can I upload the minidumps from the BSODs in the past week and have you guys look at them to see if any of them are avast’s fault?
I have a support thread on sevenforums.com and a person on the forum recommend I uninstall avast and install MSE for diagnostic purposes, but I’d like to see if Alwil thinks they are from avast if possible.
I agree to remove Spybot! Download “whocrashed” from Resplendence Software, it will read those BSOD dumps and let you know what it thinks! Awesome tool!
Sorry, but I don’t know the answer to your question or if Avast! is causing your 5 BSODs in the last Week, who knows but did you download or install anything else recently roughly a Week ago or more?
Anyway, with Avast! sometimes higher scan or security settings or by checking a few tick boxes here or there in the program can cause issues too, had you adjusted some of its settings before these BSODs started happening?
I’m not an expert on this but I’ve been using Avast! for a few years now as my primary resident AV and during that time I’ve really only experienced two or three problems of which only one possibly may cause BSODs on my system as far as I suspect could be related to Avast!
The other know issue with Avast! & Windows is something that needs to be changed from default if you are having frequent disconnections of your internet and see a yellow exclamation warning triangle that may lead to a red ‘X’ on your network icon which indicated that the web is cut from your PC. It is easily fixed though by deselecting in Avast! something that seems to agitate a Windows protocol or something, although this isn’t only effecting Avast! but happens with other programs too. To stop this being caused by Avast! you have to open Avast! go to Real Time Shields menu, choose Web Shields and click on the Expert Settings button and you need to click to put a tick in the box in front of the option * Scan Traffic from well-know browsers processes only, and close Avast! and that conflict issue should be prevented AFAIK.
Hope this helps and you find out what is causing your BSODs, BTW Spybot Search & Destroy is a pretty old program that isn’t supported the best, better options in that anti-spyware department are SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware, both of which you can download and use as free on demand scanners or pay for residency and auto-updating.
Ooh, ooh I think Spybot S&D conflicts with Avast! if you have both of them running and can cause BSODs, so ditch S&D and hopefully they’ll go away. I think Lavasoft’s Ad-aware could replace it or Comodo Free Firewall with Defense+ activated, of which the latter is the better option that I recommend and currently employ together with Avast!.
I too am having the same issue since I did a program update and license update the other day.
I have been running Avast 6 on my windows 2008 boxes since October with no issues. Soon as I did the program update last week all my VMs are blue screening.
