Is this legit? Green box: "A new version of Avast! is available on the net."

For the past few days, this has been popping up on my Avast:

Yet, I see nothing about a new version on the Avast website or this forum.

After the false positive issue (which I somehow missed entirely, thank God), I’m a bit cautious and want to confirm first before I click any strange links.

(Yes, I already updated to VPS-091203-1, which fixed the false positive bug.)

Thanks.

this notification is legit. you can always check the current avast version on avast site.

@ DBH

The program has been updated to Build: Sep2009 (4.8.1368)

To update right click on the avast! icon in the taskbar then Updating then Program Update

Welcome to the forum
Always good to check here first, if in doubt about anything to do with Avast. (Or security generally.)

If you use a third party firewall, it may need to be instructed to allow the new program.

With regard to checking the avast website (particularly the history page), note that the page (in the recent past, maybe no longer the case) would often not be updated until a day or two after the updated download was available. Quite properly, getting the update out to users has always taken priority over updating the history.

Most often, the first you’ll hear of a new program update is right here in the forums.

The avast Pro/Home revision history page don’t have that problem I believe, it was often reported that the VPS History (which is different) was at times behind the updates. Since there aren’t so frequent program updates the revision history page has tended to be correct.

Thanks, David, I’m pretty sure you’re right, now that I think about it. I stand (er, sit) corrected.

DBH, the popup seems legit.
Which is your avast version 4.8.xxxx?
