web shield about 76 MB
avast total memory usage about 100 MB
??? ???
And the point is ?
The web shield is an active scanner and during activity (and shortly after) memory use will be elevated. Windows up to a point controls RAM and when to hand back some of it, RAM is there to be used and for most people70MB is a drop in the ocean.
I have many applications that use more and do less, Firefox, SnagIt Editor, explorer.exe, svchost.exe, acs.exe, Snagit32.exe and ashServ.exe on my system right now use more memory than ashWebSv.exe, am I woried about them either, no, I have 2GB of RAM and it is there to be used.
It also depends on what memory measure you are using, there are several columns in the task manager. It also depends on what you are doing and how intensive the browsing activity.
How much memory do you have Mina?
Memory is to be used, not just to stay there available.
The amount depends on the applications running at that moment (specially, in WebShield case, the browsing, number of tabs, etc.).
Memory= 1gb
IE open with only one tab ???
It does seem high, This is mine on Windows Vista with six IE tabs open. Memory=3GB
Is there anyway to make Avast a bit more light-weight?
When I started up my PC this morning the AshWebSrv was taking 86 MB of memory with nothing open. While this isn’t a lot - I try to keep my laptop running at peek efficiency and 86 MB is one of the large consumers of memory I’ve got (right after Chrome, Thunderbird and Songbird)
All my settings seem to be set to ‘normal’
Does not seems a lot… really… The virus databases nowadays should be loaded into memory and it will take almost 30Mb… I won’t think the other 50Mb was quite a lot… Anyway, it will be an update on avast 4.8 next days. Maybe the next version run better in your computer.
