is this normal?

there are two aditional strange types of scans in the scan tab

Not normal. Did you do a repair of avast via add/remove?

yes, i did it. It is important to mention that this computer was infected but after cleaning and repairing the whole system, the only problem that i am aware of are those rare scan options shown above.

Ok! Before you do anything what previous antivirus software did you install prior to installing avast? Norton, AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials and etc. Before installing Avast run your previous antivirus removal tool/uninstall utility in safe mode.

After you have done that uninstall Avast via add/remove. Download Avast Uninstall Utility via here http://www.avast.com/en-nz/uninstall-utility and run this tool in safe mode.

2nd tool that you should download is called Avast Cleanup Tool via here http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/ Scroll a bit down and you will see a Zip file of Avast Cleanup Tool. Run this tool in normal mode (not in safe mode). After that restart your computer manually!

After that download and install a fresh copy of Avast Free. Once it has been install it will run a quick start up scan. Once finished restart your computer manually again and re-register your copy of avast.

@ Staticguy,
I think you have your regular and Safe modes mixed up.
The avast Removal Tool is run in regular mode and then allow it to do it’s work in safe mode as outlined by the program.
Rejzor’s tool should be run in Safe mode.

Seriously!!! :o. I have been told from users here that Avast removal tool should be run in safe mode and Rejzor’s tool can be run in normal mode? I have been doing this the whole time. ???

Hope I can clarify, when Avast removal tool is initiated, it will boot the PC into Safe Mode and then you chose what to uninstall.

People said something like what you mentioned Schmidthouse. So all it means that you run Avast removal tool both in normal mode and in safe mode. I.e. Run the tool in normal mode. Restart your pc and keep pressing f8 to boot in safe mode and run that tool again.

Or do you mean once you double click the downloaded avast removal tool it will automatically put your computer in safe mode and it will allow you to chose what to uninstall?

Sorry english is my 2nd language sometimes users say 2 different things which I sometimes mix it up.

Do I look like I’m a newcomer ??? I’m simply correcting your information.
Don’t get all excited. We all make mistakes. That includes me. But, we should learn from our mistakes,
not take it as an attack.

LOL yeah you are right bob3160. LOL attack mode I was completely confused. That’s why forum is for helping one another and correcting each other mistakes. We are not all perfect :stuck_out_tongue:

So do we do this once the avast removal tool has been downloaded and we double click the file. Avast removal tool will automatically put the computer into safe mode and we can choose what we want to uninstall right?

right
After it reboots to safe mode

Ahh… Now that feels a whole lot better 8)

@comunicacioneshs.aliados: Sorry in advance about the steps that I mentioned. There was a mix up!!! Once you download the Avast removal tool just double click it and it will automatically put you in safe mode and it will allow you to choose what you want to uninstall? My method is wrong which I have been doing it the whole time.

For the Avast Cleanup Tool it should be run in safe mode.

@schmidthouse & bob3160: Thanks heaps guys :). I will do the proper way once Avast 2015 gets released officially

Sorry Staticguy but still not quite correct.
When you run the avast! removal tool, it will you to allow the computer to boot into safe mode.
Once you’ve given the permission, the computer boots into safe mode and you then have the option what to uninstall.

Yeah I was just about to edit my message! Thanks for the correction.

The following video should make all of this very simple to understand:

Thanks a lot for that

My pleasure. The video may not be for the current version but, the procedure hasn’t changed.

Official Avast page six points in plain English say to start windows in Safe mode
http://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility

Download avastclear.exe on your desktop Start Windows in Safe Mode Open (execute) the uninstall utility If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!) Click REMOVE Restart your computer
I always did it this way. Never fails.

Rejzor’s tool is only for Win7 and up. Can’t be used on XP which Avast still supports, so I feel it would be good if the good helpers here told this to the users as well.

I have to admit I had told few users of how to uninstall and reinstall avast my way which users told me how to do it. Not until today you and schmidthouse told me the proper way. Thanks again for your video reference.

It’s time for Avast to update it’s own instructions. They’ve updated the tool but the instructions are still from the dark ages.
(It will work your way but, booting into safe mode is a step that’s performed by the removal tool and not something the user needs to worry about.)
