Is uninstall the only to stop/disable/shut off Avast?

Damn thing doesn’t give you an option to just stop it running (and remove from tray). I think I’m gonna sue the company because of the moral damages I received while looking how to disable it. What a freaking idiocy.

Welcome to the forum!

And why do you want to stop it from running?

Sue? Who? Alwil company? ??? ???
Why are you installing avast if you don’t want to keep it running? ???

The other question is: why would you want some junk hanging in your tray and bogging down your computer and causing all kinds of annoying conflicts and popup messages?

I ran it because I suspected a virus. There was no virus found so I didn’t need it anymore. This is why I uninstalled it (since there was no shut down option). I find it really stupid for a program not to have an “exit” option. I mean, what do they expect, that I will keep their program forever now? ::slight_smile:

Well, it might be a surprise for you - but yes, most people use their antivirus program continuously (i.e. the resident protection is running, virus database is updating, etc.)
If you want to use it for a single scan only, isn’t the subsequent uninstall a reasonable option then? Or would you rather keep it on your disk forever, without ever using it? Don’t see the point…

Not really for an antivirus. People want the background (resident) protection.
I won’t called stupid. Antivirus is a program to be running all the time (have services and drivers loaded). You can exit the interface, but it’s not a common program.
Besides, if you had a virus, another reason to keep your antivirus on.
The virus messages or the messages at the bottom are configurable and depend on your setting.
Which antivirus did you have before avast?

  1. Avast is very light on resources, so the program is not “bogging down” your computer

  2. What conflicts do you mean? I have no conflicts at all, and if there is some problems, and you ask nice in the forum, we are many in here that would love to help you.

  3. You can turn of the popup messages in the tray if you don’t like them

But if you just installed avast for using it one time, you can just uninstall it, and be happy, even without an exit option?

And yes, avast is great, and we will keep it forever
