I’ve had avast running for a couple of years now and it’s great.
I am running Windows XP Home.
I just upgraded my internet to ADSL2+ from something like a 1 Mb connection.
The stats on my modem tell me its connected at 12.5 Mb, but when I run the Oz Broadband speed test with avast running, I get something like 2 Mb, and then when I run it with avast stopped, I get about 6 or 7 Mb.
I clearly have other issues, but avast seems to be slowing me as well.
I’ve a 4MB cable connection. Connection-speed with running Avast = 4104 Kbps, without Avast = 4104 Kbps, in other words my connection is not slowing down with Avast.
2way: just tried several tests from OZ Broadband test site and got pretty different readings (WebShield involved or not). Seems like some “providers” in the test give better results than the others. Before giving the final judgment, can you please try some other test as well? Quick search on google reveals some. For example http://www.auditmypc.com/internet-speed-test.asp gives almost 4 times the speed as OZ Broadband here… Some real downloads of bigger files (100MB) with measurements should give you the real results.
