As I use avast! Free 5.0.677, I note that the Web Shield seems to operate as one would think it should–except that it does not appear to scan any https:// (i.e. “secured http”) traffic.
Is the Web Shield supposed to scan https:// traffic? Or have I maybe missed some setting in either avast! or my browsers.
I get no Web Shield scans of https:// traffic using IE 6, Firefox 3.6.3, or Opera 10.53.
No it isn’t, that is the whole point of HTTPS secure encrypted communication, to keep prying eyes out including your anti-virus.
Even if it were to scan https traffic it would have to try and decrypt the content, something that would require enormous processing power, making browsing https connections very slow.
