issue a STARTTLS command first...

Hi all,
I installed Avast 4.8 on Wed. Nov. 12 and today, Nov. 15. I let it run a boot scan today, which took 4 hours, and found one trojan Win32:Mudrop-u.
My concern here is that now I get a message when trying to send email with Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 that states, " An error occurred while sending mail. The server responded 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. Please verify your email address is correction your Mail preferences and try again."
Before installing, email sending and receiving was working fine.
On the 12th, I set System Restore to go back 2 days, and it solved the email sending problem, and uninstalled Avast. Today, it will not restore to any date. So, I will have to await a response from this forum to get a solution.
I can still receive emails.
My POP Mail Server is pophm.sympatico.ca, port 995 set to SSL.
My outgoing server (SMTP) is smtphm.sympatico.ca, port 25 set to TLS (if available).

Please read through this thread - it contains the solution to the avast problem in sending email with sympatico using port 25 with SSL.
