Issue with Phishing screen...

I am new to Avast and hope this is the correct place to place this thread.

The best thing I’ve done is changing from AVG to Avast…the program is fantastic.

I belong to a forum, a combination roleplay/game forum. There are a ton of threads to post in…set up similar to this forum here.

I attempted to read of the threads on Sunday and the page moved and a Phishing Screen appeared.
It asked if I wanted to go back to safety which I did. I think went lurking in other threads and this never happened, so a few times during the day I went back to that thread and got the same reaction from Avast program. I then sent off a message to the Admin and they feel it’s a issue with Avast and not the forum.

I can’t say whether this is correct or not and I don’t hold a great deal of confidence in the person who made the choice. She basically is a member/player that was given a job on the forum. I don’t know her level of computer knowledge. By education she is in graphic design.

Today I went back to the forum, clicked on thread that it happened on. I checked a few pages before and the page after, where it happened to me. It happened again on pages 68 and 69 of the thread.

I wasn’t sure if I should post the link to the thread here or not but if you need to check it, let me know.

I’ll provide you with the link to the forum and a link to the thread and the pages.

I’ve not had this happen on any other website/forum places I’ve visited and am wondering if it’s a Avast issue or there really is a Phishing issue with the sight. The person that reply tried to say that she checked the status of the last person who post in the thread and there was no issue. I doubt it has something to do with the last poster though.

Thanks

Can you post the link, but de-activate it?

Change http to hXXp → To make it non-clickable

someone should be able to have a look at it…

No problem.

The link is… hXXp://abyss-uk.com/city/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=42224

It happens on pages 68 and 69. Last time I checked there they were up to page 70.

Not sure if you need it but this is the link to the entire forum…hXXp://abyss-uk.com/city/index.php

Know its not great to bump…but this is buried and was wondering if anybody has any info on this for me. The Admin of the forum is hoping to find out if its something on their end or a glitch with Avast.

Thanks so much.

Unfortunately I’m on dial-up and this site loads a whole slew of images but I have quickly visited the two pages and no alert from avast. I’m using firefox 3.6 with NoScript and RequestPolicy add-ons (and site allowed, etc.) and no alerts.

I haven’t been able to find anything, but there is no way I would venture out hunting trouble with IE.

Thanks so much for replying and checking this out.

I’m using Chrome and haven’t checked whether it’s happening for me just with Chrome or Firefox or IE. Will check both of those and see if it occurs again.

Otherwise, I’ll assume it’s a Chrome issue and not a Avast issue. If it happens with other browser, I’ll post here with the results.

You’re welcome.

Just wanted to update this issue.

It has to be something associated with Chrome. I just went to the forum and thread using IE, Firefox and Opera and the issue didn’t happen. Shut them down and opened Chrome and the Phishing Warning Screen appeared.

I’ve sent a message alerting Chrome of this issue to see what they have to say.

Again, thank for your input and time.

Google Chrome uses some sort of protection provided by Google, not sure what they call it.

Here’s an extract from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome#Security

Chrome periodically downloads updates of two blacklists (one for phishing and one for malware), and warns users when they attempt to visit a harmful site. This service is also made available for use by others via a free public API called "Google Safe Browsing API". Google notifies the owners of listed sites who may not be aware of the presence of the harmful software.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much.

I forward this info the owner/Admin of the forum.

Interesting as like I said, I tested it with all browsers and only occurs with Chrome.
