After updating to 7.0.1456, the links in Windows Live Mail no longer work. I get this message when I click on one (ironically got this one when activating my account to be able to submit this ticket----ticket submitted with no response so decided to try the forum): “This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.” I don’t know what program runs these links to see what should be associated with it. When I do a system restore to before the Avast update, then the links in Live Mail work as they should.
(Also, I have Windows 7 Home Premium, but don’t know if it’s 32 or 64 bit.)
it is a browser problem… if you google it you find the solution

- Possibly an easier method in Windows 7 - Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Default Programs
Thanks, David. That did the trick. I don’t know how Firefox (or any browser) stopped being the default program, but the links work now. Again, thanks!!
You’re welcome.
Did you happen to uninstall a browser recently (Chrome perhaps) as that can remove the default program file/link association ?
Yes, I uninstalled Chrome. That must be what happened. Thanks; I’ll be more careful!!
