Issues on reinstalling Avast Free:

i was browsing the web when suddenly, the UI tray displayed two avast icons and it said something about the memory and how it didn’t exist (i didn’t write it down, unfortunately), so i uninstalled it, and downloaded another offline from CNET and installed it.

during the process of installing, it suddenly started UNinstalling, and it said:

“Windows cannot find ‘C:\PROGRA~1\AVASTS~1\Avast\aswRegSvr.exe’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.”

followed by clicking “OK” it displays another with a different file:

“Windows cannot find ‘C:\PROGRA~1\AVASTS~1\Avast\aswRegSvr64.exe’ Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.”

I also attached a log of the installation/uninstallation.

  1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Nope, doesn’t work.

  • Which avast! version…??
  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…??

avast 7.0, windows 7 64 bit, threatfire, but i turn it off when installing this.

Not sure about threatfire, maybe turning it off is not enough…
Do you have admin rights, while installing avast!..??
Which AV did you use before avast!..??

There were issues with older versions of Avast because Threatfire (TF) is based on behavioral changes as is Avast’s behavior shield. I would suggest uninstalling TF per the vendor’s instructions, reboot, and see if this resolves your problem.
