Issues with Avast and Excel 2003

We recently went from Norton to the Avast Pro for the office. Some of our computers are 4 yrs old. When we work in Excel 2003 and save as the green save bar goes across the screen then freezes, the computer has to be restarted every time. I’ve done the following: removed avast the did a save as test it works fine, put the avast back on same issue, did a detect and repair didn’t help, did the microsoft downloads service pack 3 still did not help. I did sent a request to tech support but have not heard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as Excel is a huge part of our day ???

I suggest:

  1. Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
  2. Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista. Boot.
  3. Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.

I did everything above and Excel still locks up when formulas are added or when I do a save as. Anything else? :-\

If you disable avast, will the problem disappear?

Yes. We un installed the Avast and the problem was gone. Once re installed it was back. ???
