Issues with Avast Online Security and IE10

When Avast 2014 was released on that day I uninstalled my previous version of avast free via add/remove and then used the avast uninstal utility. I then installed the new version. After couple of days and weeks it was going fine both for IE10 and Google Chrome. Since yesturday IE10 till now is having issues loading. It opens up ok, but when it tries to load it stops for 1-2 mins and then loads up.

If I disable avast online security it opens up as usual and also it loads up very very fast! I hope Avast team is working a fix for this?

Same with avast free 9.0.2066 in IE9. Very slow loading or freezes with Online Security add-on enabled. Reliably fast and trouble-free with the add-on disabled. I’ve opened a support ticket with avast. Also, I’ve paid for Avast Internet Security, but use the free version because the paid one slows down Windows. However, this problem with the add-on is more serious. - Phil

Oh you sent them a support ticket? Any new details when they will fix this issue?

Just now I sent Avast a support ticket notifying them about this issue.

I just installed avast 2014 yesterday… on my (secondary) WinXP SP3 system — and noticed the same thing using IE8: that with avast’s security plugin enabled, webpages take several minutes to be rendered… but all is back to normal upon disabling the plugin.

Ok. So I am having the same problem with IE 8 being so slow. 5 + minutes to load each page including my browser. I'm using XP Pro & Avast ver 2014.9.0.2006. This machine is a total reload (about 2 weeks ago)from a new partition and format on. Avast was loaded 2nd to Windows before any other required programs, Java, Flash etc.
I only started having the slow problem a few days ago and when I looked at browser add ons, Avast Online Security was listed twice. I selected one and hit disable but both went. At least my browser speed is back to normal.
So I'm thinking since Avast was loaded 2nd there is nothing else that could have created the problem but Avast itself. The time it took to show up has me wondering could it be a recent D/L from Avast that is causing the problem and have they looked into this?

Try reseting your IE settings.

This is done by opening ‘Internet Option’ and clicking on the “Advanced” tab. SEE PIC

You don’t have to delete all your personal settings; such as HomePage, Add-ons, etc so it shouldn’t change much (if you have custom settings in your “Connections” tab; you will need to go back and set them to your needs.

I also have a problem with my secureline, it simply does not connect when I updated my avist to 2014, for the secure line it always gives the message “secureline has encountered some technical issues”. A crying shame bearing in mind that this has been paid for for a year.

Larry,

the two mentions of avast online security is correct: one is considered the toolbar, the other is deemed a browser helper object (or extension… I’m not at my avast machine at the moment to get the exact specification).

The extreme slowing down of IE is being reported by several people, including myself.

Resetting doesn’t help either even when the Avast Online Security is enabled. Disabling the plugin makes IE10 work a lot faster.

I just installed a new version of Avast and immediately began having problems with IE10 immediately. Despite all the on-line complaints and comments (both here and on Microsoft community) the Avast customer support person insisted the fault was all my computer. He assured me the $179 tune-up that Avast provides would take care of the problem. The tune-up consisted of nothing more than running a few freeware programs that cleaned the registry and unneeded files—something I do on a regular basis. $179 dollars later, guess what. The problem still existed, and I figured out a work around myself. I like the security features of the software–I have a paid version that’s a step up from the freebie–but the customer service stinks.

  1. You didn’t and still don’t need the third party support. If you have any complaints please contact either…
    nekvapil(at)avast(dot)com or riley(at)avast(dot)com
Please include a “detailed” account of your experience.

  2. This seems to be an ongoing issue. Most have been resolved by disabling the “avast online security” add-on in their browser(s).
Personally I don’t even have “browser protection” installed. I have faith in the avast web shield. I also use “PrivDog”.

  3. Next time use the forums. It’s Free 24/7!

Just a friendly reminder that IE11 has been released to the general public for a while now. If you have IE10, then update to IE11. If you’re on Windows 7 with IE9, then you can also upgrade to IE11.
