Issues with File System Shield and Web Shield with 9.0.2011

I haven’t been on my PC since the new engine update came out; until today. What is up with the File System Shield checking all the files on my PC? And the Web Shield is weird as well. I would like to deal with the File System issue first.
I purchase the Internet Security, and often when Avast updates an engine, it is less user friendly.
Yes, I have uninstalled and did a clean reinstall— no difference
Yes, I realize now that doing the update from within the program has messed up something… but I don’t know what. I was just getting used to navigating the 9.0.2008 update.
Could someone with more knowledge than me give me a helping hand… it is much appreciated.

Try a clean install…

Download and save aswclear.
Download and save your choice…
Free
Pro
Avast Internet Security
Premier

Run “aswclear”, you will be directed to reboot into safe mode, click “yes”.
Reboot
Install choice from above.
Reboot and register or insert paid license.

Can you describe in a little more detail what you mean?

Do you mean that you’ve found it configured to check all files? Or that it’s running a scan?

Thanks para-noid. Did as you suggested, downloaded and ran aswclear/avastclean then TRIED to install the Avast internet security. It won’t install ?! Now what, ?

First off, do you have any drivers with yellow triangles in device manager?

Try this but this time using an additional remover and different (online) installer:

  1. Download Avastclear, Rejzors uninstall tool and the appropriate Avast program edition

Note: You need to be ONLINE during this install

Avastclear : http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
Rejzors Uninstall tool: http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

  1. Uninstall Avast by control panel [If you don’t have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
  2. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear.
  3. Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn’t) - reboot.
Check : Once uninstalled check in device manager>view>show hidden devices if there is anything related to avast with a yellow triangle… if so, uninstall it and reboot.
  4. Install the version you downloaded.
  5. Reboot.

The rejzor utility is not compatible with XP, so I will forgo that step and CCleaner. My question to you is, " am I to install my Avast program online ?

I don’t seem to be able to understand your question…

I think you meant is it possible to install avast! using the online installer… the answer is yes.

Thanks for help. PC will not connect to ISP. This supposed" update" will not allow itself to start ! Has exposed my system to malware, which I am unable to find because Mbam is corrupted!
Thanks again Avast for costing me more hassle than you are worth !!!

Do you have MVPS host files?

I can’t download and run OTL because I can’t go online. I checked devices, found 2 with yellow triangle and uninstalled them. Did a reboot and now in networking it says my network card is ‘null’ so…
Any other help… this all began when the new Avast update wouldn’t start, restore or repair itself.

Go to Device Manager, click on Action in the toolbar, and select Scan for hardware changes…

Will try. Thanks!

What are your current problems, as it stands I can just see adware

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

Thank you Essexboy! I am going to list events as happened, hopefully you can make sense of it.

  1. Updated engine from 9.0.2008 to 9.0.2011 on 12/29 from within my Avast Internet Security package. After restart, CPU usage by Avast was 95-100, and ran for hours. So…
  2. Reboot in safe mode, system restored to 9.0.2008 engine, PC ran wonderfully for the rest of that day.
  3. Restart on the 20th, Avast updated the engine without my permission (that’s is how I have in set–virs defs are automatic) CPU running 95-100% for hours again. Shut it down again.
I’ve had hardware configuration issues, missing drivers reported, Avast firewall blocking my ISP, missing network connections… and issues others have reported except—NO BSOD and I can still use safe mode.
    Attached AdwCleaner files.

Have you done a clean install of Avast ? As sometimes on a major upgrade something goes amiss

Yes I did a clean install. Ran all the appropriate programs to rid pieces of Avast left behind after unistall.
Even after clean installation, CPU ran up to 100% for hours. Plus the tray icon said everything looks good, but when I opened Avast, got the big red box telling me Avast needed to be started. When I clicked the button to start… nothing happened.

There is a beta just released that appears to cure the CPU problem http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=144768.0
