Issues with new version on Vista SP2

Well, my avast free went ahead and updated itself tonight from an older version to 11.2.2262, and I’m now having numerous issues with avast and my computer (running Vista SP2).

First off, I’m having these issues with the program itself:
-The only scan available to me on the drop-down menu under virus scan is “boot-time scan” (none of the other options like “quick scan” appear).
-I also tried doing the new “smart scan” from the main page, but it seems to stay at 6% (although it appeared to be doing something, it stayed on virus scan for a long time and the percentage never changed).
-It says I’m protected, but I’m not even sure if it’s working. The avast icon isn’t spinning like it did in my previous version, but maybe you just removed that animation.
-The “finish installation” screen actually came up a second time when I rebooted later, but it’s stopped coming up since then.

Secondly, it seems to have caused weird, persistent minor issues during my computer boot-up in the form of certain system tray icons no longer loading (namely the “system volume control” icon and the “safely remove USB hardware” icon, both fairly annoying to have missing).

Does anyone know what’s going on or have any suggestions to offer? I’ve been using avast for 7 years now and have never had a problem until this update.

Perform a repair of avast and see if it solves the problem.
If not perform a clean installation of avast.

Thanks for the help. The repair fixed some of the issues (all the scans were there), didn’t fix some others, and created some new problems (like the fact that the avast tray icon was then broken and wouldn’t open any menus or the user interface).

A full uninstall and clean installation seemed to do the trick, though. It’s obvious from the way it looks/runs now with a clean install that the update was botched. Even after the clean install, I still had a few missing tray icons after a reboot, but I just shut down and booted back up, and they’re all there now. So I guess I’ll see if it crops up again or any more issues arise.

Just one quick question, though. Just to be sure, did they remove the animation on the tray icon in this version of avast? My previous version had the spinning orange/blue icon when avast was working/scanning, but I’m just seeing the static orange icon with the new one with no animation. Just want to make sure it’s functioning correctly.

Yes, but you can reenable it in the settings.

Thanks…found the setting, and it seems to be running fine, so I guess it’s working normally after the reinstall.

You’re welcome.
