Issues with uninstalling Avast Free Antivirus

Hello,

I have Avast Free Antivirus version 20.8.2429 (build 20.8.5653.561). I am trying to uninstall it but am not able to do so.

This is what I tried:

  1. I tried uninstalling through the control panel in Safe mode. But it seems to be stuck at the beginning, at the stage ‘Replacing files’. I have attached the snapshot ‘ControlPanel_Uninstall_SafeMode.jpg’.
  2. I tried the avastclear.exe utility in Safe mode. But it also gets stuck. I do not even get the pop up that I am supposed to get, for the installation path. I have attached the snapshot ‘AvastClear_SafeMode.jpg’.
  3. I tried using the Avast repair feature from the uninstall option in Control Panel, again in Safe mode. Even that gets stuck in between. I have attached the snapshot ‘Avast_Repair_SafeMode.jpg’.

Please let me know what could be wrong, and how I can fix this.

Try to go to safe mode and see if avast services show up in the ms config, disable them and then also set so they don’t start at startup, then try uninstalling, not sure that will work though, and be careful with it.

avastclear.exe should be run in regular mode.
When it runs, it will as for permission to boot into safe mode and run from there.

Uninstall Avast
Download the Avast Uninstall Utility to your Deskto http://www.avast.com/en-gb/uninstall-utility
For Windows XP and Vista get the Avast Removal tool from here https://install.avcdn.avast.com/iavs9x-xp/avastclear.exe
Uninstall Avast via control panel and follow the directions.
Run the Uninstall Utility and accept the reboot to safe mode
Once complete reboot your system.

I haven’t had to uninstall Avast in a while but,
If it requires Compatability Mode for Windows 8 then something is wrong and Avast needs to address the problem.
The correct procedur is as follows,

Uninstall Avast
Download the Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop http://www.avast.com/en-gb/uninstall-utility
For Windows XP and Vista get the Avast Removal tool from here https://install.avcdn.avast.com/iavs9x-xp/avastclear.exe
Uninstall Avast via control panel and follow the directions.
Run the Uninstall Utility and accept the reboot to safe mode
Once complete reboot your system.
