Hi, new here. Having a real problem with my laptop. Somehow it’s been infected by the isearch tool bar plus numerous other items. Have used Avast, Malwarebytes and Hitman so far and have been able to remove the bulk of the 600+ items that got through my Premier Avast (very disappointed customer) but the final traces of this malware will not shift. It’s now affecting my Start up programmes so if anyone has some help for me i’l be really grateful. Thank you in advance

Attach your logs. (MBAM, FRST and aswMBR…!!)
Instructions: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Hi, not sure how to get log from Hit man which found the bulk of the malware… not very good at this sort of thing. Very grateful for any help you can give me though , thank you

Just follow the instructions, we don’t need any HM logs.

Hi again… ok i think 've done this right. If i haven’t i do apologise :-\

You did. Now you’ve to wait a bit…

Thank you

Let me know what problems remain after this

CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Hi, i have a question… so sorry to be a bit of a blonde. In the adware scan it came up with ‘webinstr’ Do i need to get rid of this as this was the only thing that came up?? just want to make sure i’m not removing something i shouldn’t be thanks.

No problems with questions, remember the only stupid question is one you do not ask

Yes clean everything as your shortcuts have also been hijacked

Thank you, ok this is the log after emptying

Excellent … How is the computer behaving now ?

A lot better than she was, got a lot more speed ( actually faster than my windows 8.1 desktop now :-\ ) and the dreaded tool bar has finally disappeared. ;D Cannot thank you guys enough for all your help. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Here is a little fire and forget programme that you may find useful, it will not block everything but enough to stop it becoming a problem

A small tool that may help when you download programmes

http://unchecky.com/

Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder

Right click on the Unchecky_setup
http://i1059.photobucket.com/albums/t432/cinjo23/uncheckysetupicon.png
or folder and choose to Run as Administrator

Once open click the Install button.

http://i1059.photobucket.com/albums/t432/cinjo23/uncheckysetupwindow.png

Then click on Finish

http://i1059.photobucket.com/albums/t432/cinjo23/uncheckyfinishsetupwindow.png

Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Download and run Delfix

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/CryptoPrevent.JPG

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this little guide Best security practices Keep safe

Thank you. Have done clean up, installed unchecky, but seem to be struggling with cryptoprevent, it’s taking ages to finish installing…or is this normal??

It depends on how much you are whitelisting in the directory, it should take no more than two or three minutes

Hello again, well so far so good in most areas, had this pop up in AMWB scan earlier . Is this anything to worry about please? … thanks in advance … again guys .

No that is not a problem it is how cryptoprevent helps you

So anything that comes up in the malware scan is safe to quarantine or delete ? sorry to ask, what is probably trivial simple questions but have learnt alot on here from you guys in last 24 hours so feel it’s best continue down the simple route so as to understand

Yes in the vast majority of cases quarantine away
