iStartSearch is not removed by Avast

I have used several Adware/Virus programs - MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, eSet, Avast FRST64.exe, Junkware Removal Tool, AdwCleaner, ComboFix, HitmanPro, TDSSKiller, gmer Root Killer, and CCleaner. Avast reports finding iStartSearch, although I do not have any symptoms described on the web. Avast tells me that it has cleaned iStartSearch and that my system is clean, but if I rerun Avast right away, it again finds iStartSearch. This happens on two different PCs. What should I do?

It seems you have way more programs that you need, and understand how to use

eSet
Do you have two antivirus programs installed?

For help start a topic in correct forum section and follow instructions here > https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Since I told you I ran all of these programs, I can see why you might think I use too many. For normal usage, I run only MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and eSet Node32 AntiVirus. Perhaps Windows Defender is also running, but I never pay any attention to it.

So my problem remains, why does Avast claim to find IStartSurf, claim to have fixed it, but doesn’t fix it?
Thanks

What part of avast is detecting it ?

What should I do?
Well... If you want help, follow the instructions in the link that Pondus gave you.
  • I ran MalwareBytes, Farbar, and AswMBR. Ponder’s url also mentioned using MCShield, but my understanding is that this is for use only when there is an indication of an infected stick drive. I have no such indication, so I didn’t run MCShield.
  • As I mentioned previously, neither MalwareBytes nor Farbar (FRST + ADDITION) found iStartSearch, but I ran them again to provide new log files (attached).
  • The logfile for AswMBR is also attached.

as said above, Next time post malware and false positive problems in Viruses and Worms forum section

ok. thanks

There seems to be an issue with the installation of Chrome. Let’s see if we can get that fixed first and then move on to the other issue.

FIRST >>>>

Please go to START (Windows Orb) >> Control Panel >> Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features and remove the following (if listed):

Google Chrome

To do so, left clicking on the name once and then click Uninstall/Change at the bar above the list window.

Follow the prompts of the uninstaller BUT please read carefully any questions it asks before answering; some uninstallers will try and deceive you into keeping the software.

SECOND >>>>

64 bit: Reboot your machine and then go to here and download a fresh installer for Chrome.

Double click on the downloaded file to install the latest version of Chrome. Your settings and extensions should be added automatically; please let me know if there are any errors with this.

LAST >>>>

We need to get fresh logs now that Chrome should be repaired and installed properly.

If you still have a Addition.txt log file on your desktop, please delete it now.

Start FRST64 that is on your Desktop by right clicking the application icon, selecting “Run as Administrator” and allowing the software to run when the User Access Control asks (if it does).

The tool will start to run. Allow it to auto update and tell you it is ready to run.

Select Additional.txt and 90 Days File in the Optional Scans section of FRST64.

Press Scan button.

It will make two logs (FRST.txt and addition.txt) on your Desktop. Please attach the logs in your reply back.

@ dbrisendine Wouldn’t it be best to have an expert look and interpret results from reply #4.

Reinstalling Chrome may not be the answer. There’s more to malware removal than meets the eye. It requires an expert.

Guess why dbrisendine is listed in the analysts list
