Its Really Time To Get REAL...

Among my MANY complaints concerning Alwils cuurent decision procees that seems to be ‘do what everyone thinks is cool…’ vs PLAIN COMMON SENSE

Now, can we stop taking marketing decisions from our kids …thats the ONLY way I can see a security products vendor redirecting any of its customers, especially their BUSINESS CLIENTS as well as implemetnting software requirements for Avast! 5 (YES…THIS COMMENT REFERS TO FLASH)

If someone would not have posted the DIRECT DOWNLOAD LINKS here in the forum, I would have had to choose a different security solution provider…FACT!

Its just plain silly to have a security application be so incomplete becuase of asthetics…sorry, but thats the truth…and PLAIN COMMON SENSE.

Again…CNET: more ‘media player’ type marketing for something that deserves SO MUCH MORE RESPECT!!!

PLAIN COMMON SENSE

…its what makes The Aquanator work :-X

Right now, I see MANY other users complaining about being hijacked and redirected from CNET after being sent their by Alwil to get Avast. Its been known for at least three years now, as far as any techs Iv spoken with, that CNet and many others are a ‘port-scanning’ pool.

I cant say its CNet fault, but their lack of doing anything about it does make me find them personally copable.

I dont think its Alwils fualt, other than my previous comment of ‘NO SECUIRITY VENDOR SHOULD SEND ME FROM THEIR SITE TO DOWNLOAD THEIR PRODUCT’. I think that maybe, like so many other entities, are getting caught up in whats cool and whats not. As a security solution provider, I would expect or hope that you would never fall victim to such ‘high school’ methods.

As well, and I know you dont want to hear the flash thing again, but Alwil can PAT THEMSELVES ON THE BACK. You have just made a security product that has actual “ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS”…and this isnt the same as OS requirements.

Whats that about?

Asthetics or not, if I take the solution ALL provide to this then Avast does not COMPLTLY function…ie. uninstall Flash…is that really good advice, probably but I like watching Hulu yet I cant figure out why my security vendor would implement an engine that is covered YEARLY as unsecure and unreliable. Can a hacker cuase a flash call in a ‘non page fault’ area along with Avast GUI screen calls, causing the system to BSOD (in attempt to disbale Avast protection while OPEN NETWORK connection exists), upon restart then infecting or compltly disabling the Avast engine…it cuold happen.

Bottom line, along with one of the COOLEST security products Iv used, I am confused as someone who holds a ‘security clearance’ as to why Avast is straying away from the things that have kept me coming back…now I have to leave cause you wanna be like the other guys, instead of continuing to do your own thing?

How long before the whole CNet redirect hijacking really becomes an issue before Alwil takes a new/old look at their methods.

Unti Avast will function without it…that includes the stupid graph…it has SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS to function fully. I dont know about you, but I dont buy a security product unless I can use it all…

Bullshit.
Flash is no software requirement for avast.
Even if you keep squatting that every second day.

Bullshit doesn’t turn to margarine just by repeating it. ;D

hyjaxltd, please stop flooding the forum with meaningless, and basically identical posts - it will be considered as a violation of forum rules in the future.
If you’re so unhappy about avast!, you’re welcome to switch to another AV solution.

In order to use the ‘Statistics’ page…a fully included funtion of Avast!5 IS, do I HAVE TO HAVE FLASH INSTALLED ???

Yes

How is that not a REQUIREMENT :o

Im not attacking Avast!..I love it, its saved my butt many times in the past…I had always ended up back here…but facts is facts. In order to use the COMPLETE package, I MUST have flash installed…yes? Or have you figured out another way to enjoy the statistics page?

COMMON SENSE.

Hey Hey Hey ;D

I don’t know whether Avast 5 requires flash.

But they have rewritten their software completely. So bugs are not unexpected.

Without Windows Vista (lots of bugs) there wouldn’t be a Windows 7 ( The best Windows so far)

So, I consider Avast 5 as a stepping stone to the best avast ever i.e future Avast 6

Still, Avast 5 is one of the best AVs around.

hyaxltd, you’re just poor little idiot, that’s all.
;D
Case closed, post as you wish or do whatever pleases you.

Igor,

I realise that some of you in Alwil are VERY offended, yet this is a post that complies MANY complaints from not just me. Im just the one in love with Avast :-* enough to stay on course…unti all is lost.

This is NOT a duplicate post.

It refers to NEW ONGOING problems from OTHER users.

The MAIN concern is people baing hijacked while downloading Avast!..where is that covered, other than them asking what gives. No, I have obviously personally offended you, or others about the flash deal, and it wsa seen as the only thing posted about here

As far as my second part, it was just stating the ONLY solution to those who may not want to install flash on their systems as NOT BEING A SOLUTION…which as far as my main PC does NOT include me, as well as simply putting into a ‘related thread’—THIS ONE. How is ANY of that against forum policy, or is it simply because I used the word flash in a LARGER issue.

Why have you chosen to look at this as my posts of flash, simply becuase its a small part of it.

Ban me for this reply, I will insure it is shown that the MAIN purpose of this post(s) was to complie things that are CONTINUALLY ignored as nothing is changing…dont go all Flash again, this refers to being hijacked at CNet and others Alwil has chosen to send us to. How many SMB conferences did you attend concerning ‘Security and the software that puts us at risk’ last year…if you say even one then you know where Im coming from concerning flash, but dont make this about flash just so you can ban me.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT FLASH!!! ITS ABOUT THE ENITRE PACKAGE AND METHOD OF MARKETING SAID PACKAGE!!!

If I need to ber banned for speaking the truth so be it…it wont be unknown to others as to what really occured.

Whats even more amazing is the actual abuse Im getting simply for trying to cover people being HIJACKED? If I have the small mind, why are you all so dedicated to the flash issue when its a VERY small part of this issue(s).

Offended? No, just bored seing the same crap repeated again and again.
There are reasons behind the decisions, and they won’t change the very minute just because you (and yes, it seems you’re mostly alone) don’t like them.

I will guess that I am banned for asking this, but:

Vlk,

I have had my most recent thread misdirected into the ‘flash issue’ while it was not the thread point. How is that fair that your moderation crew can decide what Im saying when thats not the main issue EVEN IN THE THREAD. I keep finding it funny that less educated people (ie. my 60 yr old mother and others that dont use a PC can see this wihout me describing but only sending an email to ask what they see from it) see the COMMON SENSE problems here.

Customers being HIJACKED trying to download Avast was the main point, yet all the mod staff see is my point on flash.

THIS IS ABOUT PEOPLE TRYING TO DOWNLOAD AVAST(it simply pulls other factors into the topic)!

How was this thread, which WAS NOT ABOUT FLASH, seen as only dealing with Flash?

You mentioned flash first…

Now, can we stop taking marketing decisions from our kids ...thats the ONLY way I can see a security products vendor redirecting any of its customers, especially their BUSINESS CLIENTS as well as implemetnting software requirements for Avast! 5 (YES..THIS COMMENT REFERS TO FLASH)

Anyway, so far, only you, and the other user, apparently have been redirected from CNET…Loads of people…
