* If it can’t be said in a few sentences, it doesn’t need saying!
* If it can’t be said in plain speak, it doesn’t need saying!
* If it can’t be said without hyperlinking to more jargon and legalese, it doesn’t need saying!
* If the EULA can’t be presented in such a way as to make it easy for the end user to read, it doesn’t need saying!
Lawyer Jokes:
Q: What’s the difference between a good lawyer and a bad lawyer?
A: A bad lawyer can let a case drag out for several years. A good lawyer can make it last even longer.
Q: What’s the difference between a dead skunk on the road and a dead lawyer on the road?
A: There are skid marks in front of the skunk.
Satan was complaining bitterly to God:
“You made the world so that it was not fair, and you made it so that most people would have to struggle every day, fight against their innate wishes and desires, and deal with all sorts of losses, grief, disasters, and catastrophes. Yet people worship and adore you. People fight, get arrested, and cheat each other, and I get blamed, even when it is not my fault. Sure, I’m not perfect, but give me a break. Can’t you do something to make them stop blaming me?”
And so God created lawyers.
When lawyers have made all their millions and are bored and become politicians and like to hear their own voice discourse for hours why the current issue should be debated with a 10 person committee and grant Billions of $$$ to bail out failed banks and auto manfacturers to keep themselves entertained perplexes me.
There was a time when I would have argued vehemently with you,
or shot back with,“Yeah until you need one”!!
After having had a little experience with them,I now say you are
pretty well spot-on.
EULA’s are awful.
Try reading the full product literature for a prescription medication.
You will never take your blood pressure pill again!
yeah guys, I’m afraid EULAs need to be that way, that long and that complicated as companies need to protect themselves before the law, and the law is complex. I’m not a lawyer, just guessing They need to be able to fight back in any case, as much as possible, so don’t expect EULAs to change anytime soon
that’s not what they’re for ;D in other words, although they concern the users (and the company…) essentially, they’re not meant to be read by users, but by specialists, lawyers etc…they’re not meant to confuse users purposely. Companies know in advance most users won’t be patient enough to read the text, they just make the EULA as complex as possible to defend their interests in case of conflict.
You didn’t understand what I said. I meant, if someone starts really thinking about it… gets ideas like the one in the link I have given…
may be the madness might end.
